Question about Compaq Evo N610C Notebook

1 Answer

Black Screen Hi, I have a compaq Evo N610. When I start the computer everything boots up but nothing appears on the screen. To be a little more specific: I turn the computer on.... the COMPAQ screen appears and then when it normally changes to the Windows XP screen it turns black but keeps booting up. If I plug the laptop into another monitor its fine. And yes I double checked the F4 to makes sure it wasn't some sort of screen/ projector thing. Any advice?

I equally have the same problem....but then what driver is compatible with this N610c model...I've tried installing ATI radeon 7500, it acted the same way. I need a compatible software...I need a link please.

Listen the answer is this. screen resolution set to a incorrect setting or video driver installed is not compatible with the hardware in the lappy. what you do is this when you reboot the lappy press the F8 key until it give alist of options boot to safe mode uninstall video driver by going to device manager or reset display resolution in the display setting try the latter first then reboot.

    Wont boot up

try removing all cables connected to your tower, (including power cable, mouse, keyboard, VGA cable, scanner, printer, camera etc.)- then press the power button for at least 5 seconds, this is what we call POWER DRAIN, then try booting up your system again, if still unresolved, power off your tower, then open up your chassis, reseat the cables of your HARD DISK -- try again. if still unsolved, try entering the BIOS, check if the HARD DISK is detected..

    Computer wont start up fully

Your boot menu for Windows is corrupt. Try to boot from the windows installation disc and make sure to key any key when told to boot off the disc. Once the windows files load, you will have a choice of what to do next. If you have XP, choose the repair option and you will be faced with a black DOS screen...after the blinking cursor type

    FIXBOOT hit enter
Try to boot the computer without the disc in it. If it does not boot, then boot off disc again and this time type:

    FIXMBR hit yes and enter

Try once again to boot without the disc.

Also try to boot into safe mode by tapping F8 when you see the Compaq name come up during starting. If you can get to the multiple boot up option screen, scroll to "Safe mode with networking" and choose that. If it boots then you can go to the start button > accessories > system tools > system restore > choose a restore point back a day or two and follow the prompts.

If you have Vista, boot off the disc and choose start up repair. If that doesn't work, boot again and choose restore computer to an earlier time. Again choose a restore point back a few days. Good luck ParrotHead PC Repair

Hdd lock on start up and never set a password help

Your best bet in this case is to use a Live CD of a Linux distribution, like Ubuntu, that you can download from Ubuntu.com. You put the CD in your drive and boot your computer from it and it gives you unfettered access to most peripherals connected to your computer. This should circumvent any kind of password prompt you're getting and, unless the drive is encrypted, you should be able to access your data.
