Question about Brother P-Touch 1180 Label Printer

1 Answer

Hello! I have a Brother P TouchPT 1090, and there is way too much lead tape -- a big waste. I would like the first letter of each label I make to be at the edge. How can I adjust my P touch so there's no lead?

I reset the margins and that only moves the wasted space to one side of the label instead of two. I think Brother should supply customers with free tape refills, since their product - by design - is so wasteful and uneconomical.

Hi you will need to change the margin size for this, you have to press the , (commer) to set the margin size, press function the < > arrows till you get "margin" on the screen, then press "enter" then using arrows < > select "full/half/narrow/chain prnt" move till you find that the letters line up to the end, you will still get a small amount of waste, this is because it has to have a set amount to be able to pull the tape through the machine before it starts to print...hope this helps

Too much lead on each label. Wasting tape. How do you adjust?

You can't adjust the lead since it is just the tape from the printhead to the cutter, the best way to save is to print several labels without cutting and use scissors to cut them apart after all are done. Otherwise it will advance to cut each time and leave the blank space from the head to the cutter blade.

The letters are rubbing off the keys. To an experienced typist, my wife, this isn't a big deal but for me it's a huge hassle. Do they make replacement keys? This is the 2nd keyboard this has happened to.

Just Use Mechanical Keyboard For Replacement !
I Means Ordinary Keyboard Don't Have Facility to Replace Key!

Printing white letters with black background..

you need to select the right tape for your machine. You can't change how it prints except by changing the tape. Brother has many colors to choose from.

Ptouch 1100QL waste of tape issue

It isn't actually "before the actual letter comes out," as you said, but rather after. You have probably noticed that you must do a "feed" first or the cut won't clear the end of the label and you have to do it again. This just reflects the distance between the print head and the cutting bar.
There's no way to avoid this if you must have the one label you just printed right away and you don't have any more labels to make at the moment.
However, if you have several labels to make, you can economize by printing them one right after the other (without any "feeds" or cuts), then once you're all done, do a "feed" and cut. The labels will be close together, with little waste except at the ends, and you can cut them apart with a scissors.

Printed Tape Cuts Off Letters

I was having the ame issue. Found the solution on the user manual (posted online). Press Function, scroll to "Margin", press "Function", use arrows to select "#" or "##", then press Function again. Now it should print with a margin, thus not cutting off your letters. Mine was set to "-", which is basically no margin.

How do i limit the space between labels

I know exactly what you are talking about, the sad part is that I never found a fix for it. The only thing you can do is print more at the same time using a few spaces in between and cut it with scissors. There are some models that will waste over 1" on every label printed. It seems wasteful, but is keeping the machine from jamming and causing more problems.
