Question about Canon PIXMA MP470 All-in-One Printer

2 Answers

When I try to print a document it will only print the color images and does not print the black and white body of the document. I just went and bought a new cannon 40 cartridge and it is still doing the same thing.

I am still having the same problem with my cannon mp470 printer. It will print color images but not black. It did print the pdf file test page that the other person sent me. But then I tried to print something else and it only printed the color images.

Thanks for using FixYa. To start with clean the print head. To clean the print head take a hot water towel with the printer unplugged and the cartridges out, clean it till the time you see there is no ink residue on the towel. If after doing this still the issue is not resolved then please follow this reset procedure:

1. Disconnect the power cable.
2. Hold down On/Off button.
3. Reconnect the power cable.
4. With the power button still down, press the Stop/Reset button twice.
5. Release the On/Off button.
6. The printer is now in factory mode (wait until idle is displayed)
7. Press the right arrow button (next to the OK button) repeatedly until Shipping Mode 3 is displayed.
8. Press the OK Button
9. Wait until “Without Cleaning” is displayed and then press the Stop/Reset button once.
10. A test page should print.
11. Open the cover. (the cartridges should position themselves at the far left – the cartridge removal location)

    12. Disconnect the power cable.
    13. Remove both cartridges.
    14. Close the cover.
    15. Reconnect the power cable.
    16. Press the On/Off button.
    17. Wait until a Replace Cartridges message is displayed. Now insert the cartridges.
    18. Wait until the printer is operating in its normal mode. The display shows the normal start menu (i.e.: Copy).

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Please check the followings. If it doesn't help then I will send you other possibilities related to software.

1. If you replaced brand new cartridges, I hope you didn't forget to remove the protective tape. Please be sure to remove the protective tape from the black ink cartridge.
(Please check that, on some kind of cartridges there are two stickers on the back and on the bottom of the ink cartridges.)

2. After replacing the cartridge, if it is new you should specify whether it is new or old.

3. After installing a new cartridge you should continue with "Aligning Ink Cartridges" procedure as described in its manual.
If you try that at least 3 or 4 times it may be helpful.

Would you please print the test file which I uploaded HERE ?
Is it printing in black and in color within the same document?

Hope this helps.

Waiting your comments.

It printed the document you sent in both black and color. However whenever I tried to print another document it only printed the color images.

Then the problem is with the program which you try to print or your document.

If you are printing your email or printing within another program (in the web) then the default printer may automatically be selected as different printer which you did not noticed.

Be sure that the printer is set as default and while printing select your printer.

Which document is that which you can not print in black?

Uninstallling an reinstalling the updated and compatible drivers may help you. Please click this link and select your operating system. Then download and install your printer's drivers.

Want to print black and white. How?

Setting the font type color in a Microsoft Office Word document to black will ensure that the document prints the text in black. However, if there are images, graphics or photographs within the document, they will more than likely print in color or hued colors similar to black. To ensure that the entire document prints solely in black ink, you must set the color settings on your individual printer to black-and-white

1.Click "File" and then "Print." To open the print dialogue box using keyboard commands, press "CTRL" and "P" simultaneously.
2.Select the printer you are using at the top of the dialogue box under "Printer" and "Name."
3.Click the "Properties" button next to the selected printer. The dialogue box that appears is different for all users, as it depends on the type of printer being used.
4.Click on a tab, button or selection box indicating "Color." Most options include high-quality color, grayscale and black cartridge only. Choosing grayscale will print the document using various shades of gray and other tones such as blue or green that match the actual hues in the document visible on the screen. A photo or picture that may look black or gray could actually have blue undertones. To print purely in black and white with no undertones, you must select either "black cartridge" or "black and white only."
5.Select "OK" to return to the Microsoft Word printer dialogue box. Press the "Print" button to print the black-and-white document.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

I would like to print some color pictures in black & white but I cant get it to do it. Any ideas

The black ink produces dark images while color ink produces multicoloered images. Once pictures that appear in color on the computers word documents are dispensed for printing, the color ink makes possible requests. It is impossible to request black charaters from colored ink on the printer.

I have a pinnacle Pro 901. How do I print in black & white only?

Hello, try this: Start Menu, > Printers and Faxes> then right-click on your printer. Move the pointer down to 'Printing Preferences' and click the 'Advanced' tab. There you will (should!) see 'print in greyscale' . Select this then click 'Apply' then 'OK' at the bottom of the page.

We have recently bought a second hand OKI C5200 Colour Laser Printer and even though the black and white print seems to be great the clour is coming out with coloured streaks, what would you recommend?

One or more of the drums may be defective. Swap the black with another color and print a document. If that color printed the charectors ok, then continue the test with the other drums each taking a turn in the Black drum position until you find the bad drum.

Scanned Items or Copies all print in Solid Black

I assume that you mean color images are being produced in black and white. If that's the case, there's a document on the HP web site that shows you what to look for and provides solutions:

Color Image Prints in Black and White

Good luck.

Scanned image only prints in black and white

it's tricky / annoying:

you have a preview ...
you have some of the (3) images checked
but also you have some of these images selected (blue outline)

when you select (I don't mean the checking) an image you'll have to set the scanning params
again - or check them ...

if you select an image, and then set the params (like "color"), your scanned image will be in color

also resolution is the same way ..
especially after crating preview .. it'll be set to 300 Dpi
so after seecting one for scanning - check the resolution too :)
