Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Hi im running windows vista home premium, and ive noticed my fan has been running all the time for months now and it gets really hot, I also noticed that my processor runs between 60 & 100% now too. im sure my fan never used to run all the time like this (and loud), do you think this is because my processor is running flat out just about, even when no windows or anything is running, ive got norton 2010 and it says ive got no viruses. but i heard that norton can use a lot of memory. its a hp pavilion dv6552ea laptop AMDx2 processor, 1.9mhz, 2GB

The electrical components in a PC generate heat, and fans inside the PC help move the air to keep the components from getting too hot. Excess heat will cause the fans to run constantly, damage components, and limit the speed of the CPU. One of the main functions of the BIOS is to monitor the temperature and adjust the operating conditions. While the sound of the fan running all the time can be annoying, it may the first clue that your PC is running as efficiently as possible. To help your PC run as cool and efficiently as possible, do one or more of the following corrective actions Update the BIOS WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with AMD Processors) - Microsoft Windows/Vista-Based http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-69499-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=2093&product=3466710&sw_lang= Check this link on HP they have explained the procedures to get it solved. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01007591&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3466710 For CPU 100% usages-> Go to task manager ? With all the stuff running in the background of Vista, and Norton, you could very well be maxing out the computer. Memory, processor or both. I have a laptop, and I close down the HP total care advisor, and any periphial programs running that I am not going to use. like backup programs and printer standby stuff. Norton does use a lot of resources especially on updating an d processing the updates. I usually let my PC do it's thing until the HD activity light quiets down before I try to use it.

Vista RAM usage ?

The minimum recommended ram for Vista is 1 GB, generally accepted practical minimum is 2 GB. A 1 GB system will be kinda laggy. Maximum RAM for 32 bit Vista is 4 GB.

Vista Home Premium is roughly equivalent to Windows XP Media Center Edition (Has Media Center, cann't be put on a DOMAIN type network)

Vista Business is roughly equivalent to Windows XP Professional (Can Join a Domain, Doesn't have Media Center)

Cannot upgrade windows vista home premium from disc

Check the programs that vista says it can not update. They may be incompatible with Vista. You can find this out by running the Windows Vista upgrade advisor available for free at microsoft.com. If you really want Vista & can do without the offending programs you can uninstall them & then run the upgrade. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

High speed fan

the thermo switch determine how high and how long the fan need to run to obtain the proper temperature, it will be a consern if the fan doesn't run.
as far as the upgrade of your machine. do you have enough RAM (2GB minimum) and how is the CPU?(1.6GHz or better) can the CPU handle the operating system. Since you didn't mention that, and by reading what you say, I believe the machine is not able to handle the Vista, that is why the fan is running at high speed and non-stop. The CPU is getting hot, and the power supply is pulling lots power.
Vista loading takes approximately 1-2 minutes, dependent on how many applications you have installed and what you have on the desktop.
roll back to XP from Vista is no possible, the only way is to reformat and reinstall XP.
