When I turn the oven on it (temp select, then start) it goes for a couple minutes and then starts beeping and flashes F5 in the screen

the manual says to turn the power supply off and then turn back on after 5 minutes to reset - the is a built in GE electric oven model JTP15. We did this and we are still getting the F5 error - there is no visible sensor on the inside of the oven so I dont' know what the other answer I got was talking about.

Hi, this indicates a loss of relay drive. Try shutting off breaker for 5 minutes if this does not reset you will need to replace the erc electronic oven control / clock. This is easy to replace. You can enter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. All parts come with installation instructions.

Take care

Hi,

F5 on a GE range indicates it see's a high resistance on the temperature sensor. The control is thinking that the oven is too hot so will not allow the elements to come on for very long.

This could be one of three things I will list in order of most likely to least likely.

- Sensor wiring has a poor connection. The sensor is a metal probe a little smaller than a pencil that comes into the oven on the back wall. With the range unplugged follow the wires from this sensor up to the control board, make sure the plugs are not broken and secure.

- Sensor failure, test the resistance of the probe. at room temperature it should be about 1080 ohms. if it bad it will either very low or very high in resistance.

- If both of the above are good then the control circuit board (clock) is the failed component.

EOC is the Electronic Oven Control. if you have major sparks I would call a service tech because there is an underlying cause that needs a trained eye to be sure it is safe for you to use.

I'm getting an E1 f5 error code and my oven won't light

Hello,
The F5-E1 error code means that their is a problem with the switch on the self clean door latch...it (the switch) is telling the control board that the door is locked even though it may be open so it will not let the oven come on

Hello,
The F5 ERROR code means that the self check that the control (also called clock)board runs to check itself has failed and the control has detected a problem within itself and the control must be repalced.

When I start the self cleaning cycle After about 15 minutes it starts beeping and the display shows F5. The unit is about 10yrs old. What could this be?

This could a bad temperature sensor or a bad clock.(ERC).
Disconnect the power.
Remove the rear panel.
Unhook the temperature sensor wire and test the temp sensor with a volt/ohm meter set for ohms.
A plus/minus reading of 1100 ohms is good.
If temp sensor reads good replace the ERC(clock).

Beeping driving me crazy

Ok, the first issue is the oven temp sensor. it is shorted. you will need to replace this device asap. Now, the second is is concerning the Self clean latch. it is not functioning and it is unable to be locked by the control(shorted). Use the procedure below to test this device.

1. If door latched:

1. Disconnect power from unit.
2. Check wires and connectors from control to door switch, then from door switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
3. Replace door switch.
4. Re-apply power.
5. Press and hold any key down for 1 minute to clear F5 failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.

2. If door not latched:

1. Disconnect power from unit.
2. Check wires and connectors from control to latch switch, then from latch switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
3. Repeat steps A and B for door switch.

3. Measure door switch (door open = switch open small low voltage terminals). Replace switch if defective.
4. Measure latch switch (unlatch = switch open, CAUTION - oven light contacts are closed). Replace switch if defective.
5. If corrections are made in any step, reconnect power to control. Press and hold any key for 1 minute to clear R failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.
6. If failure remains, disconnect power and replace control.
