Hello,

This unfortunately is a very notorious problem for the Hoover SteamVac's. I have written a pretty detailed step by step guide on how to diagnosis, and fix this problem though.

Here's a link to the solution I've written on Fixya. A lot of the times the brushes just need to be removed and cleaned, but it may also be the turbine gear assembly has gone bad. Your model doesn't have a belt, instead it's a turbine gear that drives your spin scrub brushes.

If you have any follow up questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this solution.

My Hoover Windtunnel the beater brush does not move. The belt is good.

Turn the machine off and try to turn the brush by hand, If it's seized take it out and clean the ends and put oil on the bearings or brush ends. Make sure the belt is tight on the brush and motor shaft.

Replace belt on hoover vacuum U4655

Turn the machine over and remove the 4 screws which hold the cover on the brush. Remove the cover and brush roller. Remove old belt. Slide new belt over the motor pulley, first. Then slide roller through new belt (if self propelled model, slide roller through the small belt, also) and slide brush roller into slots on housing (note: slots are different, match roller sides to correct slot.)

Hello,

You could have a broken fan in the motor and need to replace the fan. If the noise is coming from the brush area of the vacuum, you probably have a broken bearing in your brush roller and would need to replace the brush itself.

Hope this helps.

My hoover elite rewind is making a louder noise and I can smell something burning when I use it. I have replaced the belt but this did not help.

the smell is either the motor or the belt, if motor hope it is under warranty, if belt make sure brush roll spins freely and replace belt, if brush roll not spin freely replace it first

Brushes are not turning on Hoover Model f5905-900

Sounds like it does not have a belt (which goes from the motor, to the roller brush) write down the make/model and go to the nearest hardware store and buy a replacement belt. Usually pretty cheap.

Started making a loud noise

Wish you had included your model number, could have a clog in the hose or inlet by the brush roll. Sometimes a bad belt will be noisey as well as a bad brush roll. The motor fan may causing the noise, or motor bearings.

Hoover Steam Vav & Spin Scrub #F5899-100

Sorry it is not belt driven. There is a turbine that drives the brush. You have to remove the top cover to get to it. But if the motor smells hot, then you may have a problem with it also.

Hoover belt replacement

Turn vac. over, remove the buttom plate over the brush roll, then at the bottom edge of the top cover, using a flat blade screwdriver, insert into the slots and pry up to unlock the tabs, then the top cover will come off. Put the belt on the brush roll and feed the belt thru the opening and put stretch it over the motor shaft. Put the top cover back on and push to lock the tabs.
