Possible, but the only way to tell is to get a new capacitor. You would need the capacitor anyway if the motor is bad as you don't use an old capacitor on a new motor.

Why would a torpedo heater fan turn backwards? every time I start my all pro 115,000 heater the fan starts to spin counterclockwise and the heater wont ignite. But when manually spin the fan blade clo

If the fan has a 'run' capacitor, in rare cases, a faulty capacitor will cause a single phase motor to start in reverse. In most cases a faulty capacitor will cause the motor to only hummmm and not start or start slowly running the right direction then overheat and shut off.

See if there is a capacitor, change it first. If that doesn't fix it it sounds like its time for a new motor.

Goodman heatpump fan runs, condenser wont start

Either the condenser fan has bad bearings, or it has a defective fan capacitor.
Turn off the breaker to the outside unit.
Spin the fan blade by hand.
If the fan blade spins easily and will spin a few revolutions with no problem the fan bearings are good.
If not, replace the fan motor due to bad bearings.
I am pretty sure you fan motor is bad because with a bad capacitor the fan motor will not get up to speed and may just sit and overheat.
I'm leaning toward a bad fan motor.

Uaka 024JAZ condensing unit comes on, fan and compressor start up, fan remains on, compressor shuts off in appx 1 min , pressures appear to be headed to normal op range. I did not see a run cap for this...

This unit uses a dual run capacitor. There is no start capacitor involved.

The dual run capacitor is possible weak, also check all the electrical connections for tight fitting connections with can cause motor/compressor overheating.
To test a capacitor properly you need the proper test meter capable of reading uf readings(within 6% of the stated rating on the capacitor) "C" common to "F" fan and "C" to "Herm" terminal, the higher rating for compressor and the lower for the outdoor fan. [(example= 25/3uf 370v) 25uf=compressor, 3uf=fan motor.]

Carrier model 38txa024300 ,condesor fan wont oporate with compressor unless the fan is spun befor energizing . is it the dual run capacitor that is bad? thanks for any help. jeff

If the fan spin freely then the capacitor could be bad. Otherwise, if it spin with difficulty then it need to be cleaned and lubbed.

Fan doesn't come on ..compressor seems to start.

If unit hasn't been running for a while, shut power off to it, and go up on roof and take a long stick or similar, and try to feed it through air slots in cover at back and try to spin the fan enough to rotate it 3 or 4 times. Then have someone turn power back on (with stick out of there obviously) and try turning on fan mode only to see if fan will now come on. If it does, run it for a few minutes then try cool again.
Sometimes they get a dead spot from not being used for a while, and this will get it going again. If you have trouble rotating it, remove cover and spin by hand well, but make sure power is off, then try it again. If unit was running recently, have capacitor checked first, then fan. Capacitors can give off a very dangerous shock due to high voltage stored in them, so don't try it yourself if not familiar with capacitors.

Motor starts but wont turn

If it hasn't been running for a while, try going up on roof (AC in off position) and using a stick, or similar piece long enough to slide it through air slots in cover and spin fan blades a few times. It may only go a little at a time but keep going until you make 2 or 3 rotations. Then remove it and have someone try fan mode only. If it runs, let it run for a few minutes and , from then on it should be o.k. If you can't get at it to spin it enough with stick, remove screws on top of cover and remove cover and spin by hand (carefully and power off to AC), then try to start it. If motor hums but still will not start by itself, have capacitor replaced. Very dangerous to handle so either have someone who's familiar with capacitors do it, or a technician.

Signs of a bad compressor or condenser

plug this unit into a receptacle with a lamp also in the recept. unit will try to start the lamp will dim for a couple seconds and go back bright unit wont start maybe fan but no comp. sit and watch a few minutes later lamp will go dim again then back to bright, this is a classic low tech way of confirming the comp is trying but not working possible bad run capacitor, much cheaper than new unit

Unit comes on fan does not spin

your capacitor on the fan side is blown but that particular model needs a dual capacitor. Don't run the fan too long like that you will overheat the windings and melt her down.

Condencer unit fan wont run

If you have power to the fan and the fan won't come on, then its bad. You don't have to do another check. You will know if the capacitor is bad by turning the power on to the unit and taking a stick to start the fan. If the fan starts running after manually spinning, then the cap is bad. If not, the motor is bad.
