Hello, I might be able to help. It sounds like you need to reinstall the sound and graphic drivers for your computer. In order to find out which drivers to use you need to know the brand and model computer you have (i.e. Dell dimension 3000, HP 510, etc.). Visit the manufacturers website (i.e. Dell.com, HP.com, etc.) , click on support and downloads, enter your brand and model computer, and that you want to find the drivers. Finally, once you find the drivers page for your model, simply download and install them.

Make Windows XP smooth as Windows 7 part-1

If Windows XP works smoothly on the latest equipment, it can be trolling on an older machine or with economic components. For example Netbooks or nettops are not really swift and have limited disk space. If you start to open multiple applications simultaneously, you will soon experience slowdowns.
You can customize Windows to your material by removing or disabling everything that is unnecessary. You'll save responsiveness. Here are some of the tasks that you need to work on, just go through it:

Limit the Visual Effects:

Many visual effects adorn the Windows interface. You can disable to improve responsiveness. Below is how to do the same:
Click the right mouse button on the My Computer icon located on the Desktop and select the Properties command.

Open the Advanced tab.

Click the Settings button under Performance.

Then select the option Adjust for best performance. All visual effects are disabled.

Note that you can manually activate an effect that is important to you by ticking the box. Then press OK twice.

Rediscovering the classic theme:

The interface of Windows XP with all its colors and visual effects is consuming system resources. You can not keep clean and perfectly functional and interface.
Click the right mouse button on an empty space of desktop and choose the Properties command.

Scroll down and select Theme Windows Classic.

Click OK.

The theme of Windows XP Lite is immediately applied.

Changing themes on Windows XP.

So, here we have a simple guide on how to change your normal windows look and how to install a custom theme which you will find many online.

Here is our original windows xp themed start menu and desktop.

First to install a new theme you first have to obtain one, here are a few

After you have downloaded the zip file containing the theme. Double click on the file to open it.

Now, this may look different on your pc, it depends if you have installed a program to extract zip files. If you are familiar with zip files etc just extract the files and run the setup to install the theme.

Inside the zip file you will find the following

Double click on the setup file to install the theme.

you may get a pop-up asking for you to extract all, run or cancel, click on run if you do. if asked again, click run again.

Basically install the theme just by clicking next next next and finally finish.

Once you have installed the theme, right click on your desktop background and select properties.

On the properties / theme page, click open the list of themes and select Royale from the list, then apply and OK.

You can obtain different themes from all over the net, I would suggest you go with the site linked here, scan the files for viruses before installing. Good luck and thanks for reading.

How can i change the colors of my desktop back to normal. i have a old school desk top the box ones

You should be able to go into display properties and select Windows Classic as the theme.
Right click on Desktop
Select Properties
On Theme tab select Windows Classic and then click apply.

If you have customized the Windows Classic theme and saved as Windows Classic, then you will need to edit the registry to remove those customizations. If this is the case, reply to this solution and I will research and let you know where to make the changes. Beware that incorrectly modifying the registry can cause the system to not boot or have other problems.

Best of luck, Jim

Windows problem

Shannon,

Right click on the desktop and select properties. On the "Theme" tab, choose Windows XP. On the "Desktop" tab, choose (None), at the top of the list. Press OK.

Does your desktop change? If so, a theme you were using was not compatible with your video. Try another theme.

If that doesn't work, reply to this message and we'll investigate further.
