Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Can't delete one e-mail. Tried the Shift/Del and also deleting Inbox.dbx. Both to no avail. The minute it's highlighted it locks up OE and I have to do an Alt/Ctr/Del to ''end task'' . I'm using Yahoo e-mail mostly now.

First, set your file explorer to show file extensions so you can see .dbx files. If you don't know how to do that, follow the instructions here.

    http://icrontic.com/forum/showpost.php?p...

Open Outlook Express, click Tools> Options> Maintenance tab> Store Folder.
On the "Store Location" box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard, copy the address, click cancel, close OE without saving any settings. Click Start > Run and paste the address into the command line and press enter. The folder containing .dbx files will open, delete "inbox.dbx" and "deleted.dbx". This will delete email in your inbox and permanently delete emails you deleted previously.

It is important to copy the exact location of the "inbox.dbx" because you may have several "inbox.dbx" and you are deleting the wrong one that's why the message couldn't be deleted.

When you next open OE, a new and clean inbox.dbx will be created.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Also, you may try to compress or compact the email folder first then delete the email you want to delete instead of deleting the whole inbox. In Outlook Express, click File > Folder > Compact All Folder.

How to view corrupted dbx files ?

Deleted items are not in the inbox.dbx anymore, they are in the deleted items.dbx file now.
Were you able to select what folders you want to import from? If so, select the Deleted Items folder so it will be imported. Otherwise, if you can you still open OE, move all the deleted email back to the Inbox.
If those two things don't work, use to Outlook Express Restore Toolboxhttp://www.outlookexpress.restoretools.com/

Hi! Follow these steps to get the information:
1. Re-create your mail folder hierarchy by dragging folders into place in the Folder list. Note that any folder you have created to group sub-folders but that does not itself contain messages will not appear in the Folder list and so must be created again.
2. Re-download the list of newsgroups from each news account.
3. Reset your subscribed newsgroups and download messages again.
4. Reset synchronization options on IMAP and newsgroup folders.
5. Edit any message rule that moves or copies messages to folders other than the Inbox.

Isn't there a way to delete all inbox mail on AOL? It seems silly that you have to delete one message at a time.

if you are using the AOL software/program, open your mailbox, select the very first e-mail from the list, then press and hold down the SHIFT key on the keyboard and click the very last e-mail. This highlights all e-mail in between. You can then press the DEL/DELETE key on your keyboard

if you are using the webmail (available on AOL.COM), you will see a box at the very top column of the mail folders, selecting it will select all e-mails, then press DELETE key or click the DELETE button

Outlook Express. Can not delete items from the inbox?

Open OE and save or move any messages you want in the Inbox.
Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.
On the Store Location box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.
Press Control+C (both at the same time) to copy the address to the clipboard.
Click Cancel on all boxes and close OE.
Click on Start>Run.
Press Control+V (both at the same time) to paste the address into the command line and click OK.
The store folder containing all the DBX files should open.
Find the one named Inbox and delete it. When you next open OE a new Inbox will be created and hopefully that will solve the problem.

Outlook express

hi,

Error 0x800c0133 when you are retrieving email with your Outlook Express (OE) is because of currupted Inbox file.
To remedy please follow these steps:
  1. Open OE, on the left pane, right click "Local Folders", select "New Folder...", specify a name for your new folder as "Temp".
  2. If you are still able to access "Inbox", move all mails in "Inbox" to the new "Temp" folder.
  3. Go to menu "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Maintenance" tab -> "Store Folder" button. It will show the location of your Inbox file, please remember this location.
  4. Close OE, go to the location mentioned above, delete the file "inbox.dbx".
  5. Restart OE, the "Inbox" folder should be auto recreated. Move back your mails to the new "Inbox", remove the "Temp" folder.
or

Another solution
Error Number:0x800c0133

Error Number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.

Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create. Then:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options |
View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Inbox.dbx} and
delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked.

Outlook express

dear fando,

This is usually down to a corrupt or over-full email inbox. Outlook Express is not very good at holding large amounts of emails especially if they have large attachments. I had a user this morning with a 2.5 GB inbox.

Backup/rename Inbox (C:\Documents and Settings\(User)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GIU}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\inbox.dbx -> inboxbak.dbx).
Close Outlook Express.
Open Outlook Express.
Outlook Express will have created a whole new Inbox.
Your email should now work.

Best wishes.
