Charger Mistake: Computer Frozen

Recently I stupidly tried another charger (Toshiba brand, specifically) to charge my laptop (ASUS X83V). Since then the laptop only boots up to the ASUS logo and then freezes. What can I do to fix this?

While the computer boots up, start hitting the F8 key on your laptop and try to boot into Safe Mode, try System Restore to restore computer to a earlier time.

Restore your system through safe mode and clean your system using some reliable tune up utility such as Reginout. Start your computer normally.

Hope it would help you. Thanks

96% plugged in, not charging Hi all, my Asus

Laptop battery do have a specific lifespan, specially for older units. Still, you can check that your charger are working properly, using a voltmeter (do check the outer label of the charger for actual voltage output).

Asus x83v wont turn on at all

Try another AC outlet, Try another Cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. If the AC jack has been damaged due to pulling on the AC cord, you may have to replace the AC jack. Most likely, there is no in-line fuse in a laptop.

Toshiba satellite won't turn on

Before you make a decision about the next step, maybe you would like to know why the laptop charger is not working. Here are some commonly found reasons for this problem.

You have been using the wrong laptop charger for your machine, or someone else has been using your laptop charger for another machine. This may seem like a harmless act, but it affects the battery on your laptop, and charger you are using as well.

Your laptop battery has become weak and worn out from excessive use. Due to this the battery is not charging at all (or charging very slowly) when you plug in the charger. In this case there is absolutely nothing wrong with the charger itself.

The wire of the laptop charger has got a distinct curve at one point, and this is restricting it from transmitting power. You need to look out for such bends in the wire, as this will ruin the efficiency of the charger in no time.

This may sound elemental and stupid to some, but it does happen to many people. Maybe you are simply using the wrong laptop charger by mistake, or maybe you have failed to switch on the power switch. Check both these things to be sure.

Any of these potential causes could be the reason behind your laptop charger not working. As a result of these, either the mains power lead of your charger may be damaged, or the power supply unit may be damaged, or maybe the lead itself is damaged or broken somewhere, or some circuitry inside the laptop is damaged, and not responding to the charger. It's hard to accurately tell which of these problems could be the real cause of your laptop battery not charging, without physically examining the machine.

Solutions and Answers

Now if you are well versed in computer hardware you can attempt to fix this yourself. Most people cannot do this, and it is advisable for them to visit a computer repair shop instead. They will examine the laptop charger not working problem, and suggest some suitable remedies for it. Depending on your budget, you can choose an option that suits you and simultaneously solves your problem. Here are some recommended solutions.

Buy a brand new charger which will definitely solve your problem of charging the laptop for a long time.
Replacement Toshiba Satellite M305 AC Adapter 75Watt 19V 3.95A

If you're hesitant to pay that amount, you can try and purchase a second hand laptop charger from eBay.

Get your's repaired and pay the repair shop the fees that they charge.

If your warranty is still valid, you can simply get the laptop charger replaced.

Hi, what your toshiba laptop model and asus laptop model? You can use the asus ac adapter on your toshiba laptop only if the folllowing three conditions are met:
1) Output Voltage is within +/- 5% of your old charger's output.

For example, if your old charger provides 19V, then you can use a charger that provides 20.5V or 18.5V.

2) Output Current is the same or higher than that of your old charger.

For example, if your original adapter provides 3.42 Amps, then you can use a charger that provides 3.42 Amps, 3.9 Amps or higher.

3) Connector tip must fit securely into your laptop.

For the specifications of the two adapters, you may check it here:

Hi

This can be a problem. because the new charger may keep your laptop on. But will not charge the batteries due to the fact that the voltage and amperes need to be correct too. Check in windows if it shows if the battery is getting charged if not then you have to use the same rating charger in order to avoid the big damage later.

I have an ASUS X83V. All of a sudden the charger that came with the computer stopped working and the computer went dead. I purchased a compatible charger for the computer and it worked for about a week...

From the information you gave, my guess is that there's a problem with the power supply section of your laptop, or the chargers that you're buying aren't actually compatible... but it's more likely that it's the first case. If the laptop is under warranty, you should contact ASUS and get them to repalce the motherboard. If not, you could spend a lot of money replacing power cords every week. Good luck!
