Compaq nc8230 when I turn power on it is asking for pass word i disconected battery etc nothing work any soln?

This is the BIOS password. BIOS password is stored in the CMOS/ RTC battery of the notebook. So if you would remove it, reboot the notebook and then again reseat it. BIOS passowrd will get removed.

Haved removed the cmos battery for comapq nc8230. can I solder the existing leads to a new battery or will it damage it?

yeah you can, do the same as it before. if you dont understand consult to a technician

Everytime i try and turn on my compaqnc8230 the screen stays black but it sounds like its running?

  1. Check your power cord & adapter.
  2. If its working then check the battery, reseat the battery & check.
  3. If available then check with another battery
  4. If no, then remove the battery & switch on the PC in AC mode.
  5. Check if battery charging indication or AC power on indication is glowing. if not then need to change ur motherboard.
  6. If indication is OK, but could not power ON then check ur RAM for any loose connection or dust. clean & reinstall.
  7. If still no display, connect an external monitor, check if display is comming.
  8. If Display is coming then your LCD need to replace.

I charged mp laptop till the next day,after if i press the power comes on then off

remove external peripherals. remove battery. use ac adapter only. if still same problem replace the motherboard.

Compaq NC 8230 Power on Password
The above website will provide you with a service manual. The service manual should be useful in locating the CMOS battery which I would recommend removing for several minutes (and you might as well take it out for an hour or so). Also make sure that nothing else is connected; that includes the battery and power adapter.
If the service manual indicates that the laptop has a jumper that can be shorted (two pins that you should touch with a screwdriver simultaneously to short it), then you should do that to clear the CMOS info. Hope this helps!
