Use a multimeter or plug a fan into one of the molex connectors, flick the switch and some times the fans will twitch a little when the power supply itself is turned on.

The ps-5161-1d1 in my Dell GX280 is not working,

LOL, What do you mean still does not work? Does the computer try to come on? If not, the refurbished Power Supply is bad or the Motherboard is completely dead.

Emachine w3609 will not turn on green light is on the motherboard nothing works i did the power drain and still does not work could the ps be bad or the motherboard or both

Yes to both of your questions.
When nothing works, I first unhook everything from the motherboard except for the CPU, video, and memory. Then turn it on. If you get the fan starting up and video, then hook up the hard drive and keyboard and mouse to see if it works. Lastly, hook up the CD--this is the part that fails most often.

Unable to power on a dell gx270. swapped ps with another. same problem. tested ps, ok. what gives?

Try jump starting it by shorting the power switch pins on the MB with a flat head screwdriver. If it starts then check the power switch on the case for loose connection. If it fails then replace the MB.

If the pc is not booting up, i think the culprit is memory. Just pull out the memory module and clean the connecting edges and put it back and restart. If you have 2 ram modules, first try to switch on the pc with one ram, or try switching the modules to other memory slots.
Hope this helps ..

Gateway 507gr wont power on but looks like ps unit is good

Make sure you are plugging in your P.S. to Motherboard properly. This can happen if you are off by one pin on a 20 pin Supply on a 24 pin Motherboard. If you never opened the case and it just started happening, maybe one of your cards came out of its slot or your CPU Fan is not running.

Have you tried rebooting once it is connected? Not sure if it makes a difference, but I know you can not hook up PS2 peripherals without rebooting.

Problem with a dell computer..

Hi,

You may try connecting a different usb keyboard to your system. Mostly, some keyboard converted from serial connection to a usb could cause this kind of problem. In some cases also, wireless keyboard and mouse won't work when u turned on your system if the driver is not properly install.

You may also try disconnecting any other usb devices from your computer. Disconnect also your power supply then push and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Plug back in the power cord then connect your keyboard. Turn on your computer. if it doesn't work, i suggest to call your computer manufacturer and check your warranty. This could be an issue with the motherboard of your computer.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

Jeff
