I had the same problem. it turned out the power to the modem was shorting just enough to throw me off and have comcast resetting the ip address and connection. i fixed it by getting a new power supply and plugging it in to a really good strip bar. hope this helps

Does the motorola surboard sbc6580 modem have phone connetion

Hello:

Neither the SBG900 nor the SBG6580 have a phone jack.

A cable modem with a phone jack is called an eMTA (Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter: Cable modem Wikipedia the free encyclopedia.)

Most cable companies will only have one alternative to their own equipment when it comes to eMTAs. For example, Comcast only works with the Arris 722G: Customer Owned Arris 722G FAQ Comcast Help and Support Forums, and they'll insist that it can only work if you bought it from Best Buy.

If you wanted to keep your SBG900 or SBG6580 and have VOIP phone service, look into a service like Ooma.

Changing rstp port on router

Not capable. This is a modem with wireless gateway.

You would need at least 3 routers that support 803.1w or 803.1d for Spanning Tree.

Bought on eBay, trying to setup with comcast. See wireless signal but can't connect to the internet. I got to the configuration page and changed the SSID and setup WEP but the internet is not working.

have you tried connecting an ethernet cable directly to the modem to see if the internet is working that way? Have you considered contacting comcast as they can make sure its on your end or their end. Use this faq to help you. If you need further assistance please let me know.

Hi. just got cable internet (Comcast) and am

that's normal, wireless is normally between 1/4 and 1/2 the speed of your wired connection. normally the router gives priority to wired devices, but this should not cause you any further slow down unless you have wired devices plugged in at the same time you are using wireless. this can be changed from your router's admin page.
