You didn't mention your model number, but you posted this under Amana MVH150. If yours is that or a similar model and your cooktop lights recently blew, the resulting surge could have damaged your circuit board. We see and repair that on a regular basis. Details here.

But otherwise, the most common cause of this is a bad door switch or mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix. See this file.

On this model, it would probably the the top switch.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts for most brands by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you may be able to download it here.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Highly likely your microwave has "failed".
Down inside the microwave is a part called the Magnetron. This is the part, (about the size of your fist), that makes the sound waves to cook the food.
On some models, it can fail, whilst all the other stuff works.
3 possibilities:
1) You need a fuse replaced.
2) You need a capacitor replaced (That part "starts" the magnetron) or
3) you need a new magentron.
In any regard, very often people will not opt to have it repaired, because the labor & parts can cost more than a new Microwave.
God bless your efforts.

You sont say wheteher the unit workss if you manually set it to on.

In your situation if its just related to the timer, then the timer switch is not engaging the power circuit and needs to be replaced.

Emerson microwave, #MW8119SB, push start button to start cooking

Replace the fuse with a ceramic fuse from Home depot! costs less than $3 and it will fix the problem. I had all the same problems as everyone else, you name it my microwave had it! you must remember replace it with a ceramic fuse! not a glass one. I know people say its the switchboard and all that nonsence but I promise you, the fuse plays a majoe roll in the microwave not working properly. Even though it doesnt look broken, a junky fuse can cause your appliance to do very strange things. I replaced mine 6 months ago and it works like its fresh out of the box.

Microwave turns on, but no heat or turntable movement

The problem is that the magnatron is not getting power. Chance is that if could be a bolwn fuse inside the unit. If the fuse don't fix it then that leaves the charging diode, capacitor or the magnatron, or high voltage xformer of which without technical epertize I would not recomend attempting to replace. good luck

GE Profile Spacemaker II Microwave won't beep

hi,

The control board may need to be replaced, check your records to see if the unit is still in warranty, if it is call for repair. If it's not and you’re handy, you can find the part online and replace it yourself, just make sure you unplug it before you work on it. Please contact me if you need help.
