Question about LG WM2688HWM TROMM SteamWasher

1 Answer

WHY DOES MY WASHER SMELL LIKE MOLD?

This machine is about a year old. For some reason it just plain stinks! I no longer have the instruction manual. When I peel the rubber peice back that surrounds the drum, I can see filth. I don't know how to get in there to clean it, if thats the problem. I leave the door open to air it out, but it doesn't help. Is there a certain cycle In my manual that helps this machine self clean, or do I have a bigger problem?

Not sure if I have a warranty. My number has changed from 450-3464, to 920-486-1803. Please email or call me back! Mrs.Garvey

1 year manufacture warr.. heres how to corrrect "moldy smell"
First and foremost you MUST use an HE detergent, HE(high efficency) is design specifically for fontloading machines.. and use little amounts of it, 2-3 tablespoons is all that is required to clean a full tub of clothing.
Jusst using less of regular detergent is not the same as using correct soap. the moldy smell and black filth when the front bellow is pulled back is actually residual detegent not being disovled in normal operation , all front loading washers are experiencing this issue, there is a new product on the market to help combat this problem and for the 1-2 months ive been reccomending no one has told me that it hasnt helpd. heres the link www.affresh.com

Washer stinks

I fixed the bad odor problem once and for all!
This problem is caused by mold and mildew growing in a large ventilation hose that runs from the top of the wash drum to a large vent hole in back of the machine.

To correct this problem you can buy a kit from http://washerfan.com/ or do the cheap fix like I did.
Step One: Find the vent grille on the upper left corner of the machine. Remove the machine top, only a couple small screws hold it on.
Step two: Remove the hose clamps that hold the hose to the drum and grille then snap out the plastic grille.
Step three: The grille is convex so I used a belt sander to make it flat then I took a computer case fan that was the same size as the grill and hot glued it to the plastic grille. I wired it to an old 12 Volt phone charger (12V 500 Ma) and made it blow air INTO the vent.
Step Four: Put everything back together and enjoy a stink free washer because the mold can no longer grow in that hose.

Note! You must bleach, clean and scrub that crud out of that large vent hose and it is some kind of gross! If you're allergic to mold please wear respiratory protection. My fan has been blowing air into the washer 24/7 for six months and I have seen those case fans run non stop for years. It it dies just snap the hot glue beads and put another fan on it. Total cost for the entire fix, about $10.00

Also note that you have to leave the door open a little bit for the air that blows in the back to blow out the front door.

Towel mildew smell is being transferred from the washer. The washer must be cleaned first. The problem is not "brand specific" all clothes washers have mold growth to a certain degree. Bleach or vinegar will kill the mold inside your washer but won't remove it or the residue it grows on thereby making the situation worse because it leaves a "base" for more detergent to collect on and more mold will grow.

Washing machine mold / mildew odor is caused by:
#1 cause is overuse of detergents. Detergent companies are notorious for instructing to use too much detergent. Especially with soft water or when using liquid detergent no more than 1 tbsp of any detergent should be used.
#2 most common cause is using fabric softener because it's dispensed in the rinse cycle and will coat the inside of the outer tub with residue that is a food source for mold to grow.
#3 using only cold water for washing is fine but makes preventative maintenance very important. A weekly hot soak will dissolve odor-causing residue from inside your washer.
#4 not using the washer. If the clothes washer isn't used very often maintenance is especially important. If leaving for a vacation it's a good idea to clean your washer. Do a search to "remove washer odor" to read just how big the problem is. There are all natural washer cleaners that will also remove mildew odor from towels and clothing after the washer has been cleaned.

MOLD

Hello Friend, Sounds to me like you have a problem with the quality of your water supply going into your washer. Water quality could be a possibility. If the water contains alot of micro-organisms this could be the problem. When you are not using your front load washer the door remains closed trapping in moisture causing mold and mildew to grow. If you just repeat the cleaning process once again with bleach you should'nt have this problem anymore if you leave the washer door partially open when not in use. Happy to help, Tim.

STINKING CLOTHES front loading mach.

One possibility is to not leave the clothes in the washer overnight or they will have a little foul smell to them. We have a Samson washer and it does the same thing and it ranks close to the top on Consumer Reports. If this doesn't help have you tried going to Lowe's and ask someone in the appliance department to see if they can help. You may have already done this but call the manufacturer to see if this is a common problem and see if they have a solution. If they're not very helpful or cooperative let them know you will do a little "free" advertising for them in a nice way of course. I hope this helps. I'm having trouble with a Bissell shampooer not dispensing the shampoo and also not picking up most of the water. It's really aggravating. Have a great evening.

MY FRONT LOAD WASHER STINKS! THERE IS A MUSTY ODOR COMING FROM INSIDE.

Switch from liquid to powder detergent, no fabric softner (I know...I love it too), clean the gasket and run a cycle with bleach only. Leave the door open whenever possible. This fixed my smelly washer, now if it would only spin!

Ordor from washing machine

Peace,
Ngafm at your service,

If you run the washer once a week without clothes and use 1/4 cup of bleach with hot water it will more than likely stop the smell problem!
But after you do the be sure to do white clothes next so no bleach
stains a spot on an article of clothing as happened to me!

AND , leave the washer door open when not in use!
If the smell persists, you may want to call service to make sure all the water is being pumped out and there is no wet lint standing in the pump or drain system of the washer!
Some loaders may have this smell problem on occasion if water is left standing inside some the washer some where!

Clothes smell.

Mold, mildew and other fun things use washers as a breeding ground. Clean your machine with a generous amount of white vinegar run through a cycle. Or there is a product called Affresh you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot.
