Right. You have a "silver" account. In order to get demos or play against anyone you need to upgrade to a "gold" account. You can either use a debit card or buy a 3 month, or 12 months card at most retail shops.

I have an xbox but dont know what i need for xbox live

Xbox live is a membership that allows you to play online with other people around the world. When you purchase a condosle you get a month of "gold" then when that month runs out you drop back down to silver, check my guide to see how to set it up. silver = no online play but demos, videos etc available

Xbox/live/wont/connect

Ok, first off make sure that you are able to go to the xbox live market place. If you cant do that then there is a problem with your connection. If you are on a wireless adapter then you need to do the following: Middle button, scroll all the way to the right. System settings. Network settings. Configure connection, and scan.

If you are using a Ethernet cord, somehting is wrong with it...

If nothing is plugged in you may need to fix that...

You may have ran out of xbox live in which you will need to purchase a card or directly off of market place.

Must i get a xbox 360 or Ps3?

Both consoles have advantages.
The Xbox 360 has a vast array of titles and has the biggest fan base of the two. If you connect the console to the internet, you can download games and movies through Xbox Live. You can also connect your PC to your Xbox 360 and use the console as a multimedia center using Windows Media Center.

The PS3 has a blu ray drive as standard, so you can watch blu ray movies through your PS3. DVD's are also upscaled up to 720p to improve the look of your movies. The PS3's online service is free, and allows you to download game demo's and downloadable content for games.
The Xbox 360's disadvantages are the fact you need to pay for access to Xbox Live, roughly £40 per year, but it does guarentee a reliable online service. Also earlier and cheaper models of the Xbox do not support full HD via HDMI.
The PS3 is very expensive and lacks quality titles. The console is also on a 10 year plan, so even though the console will outlast its rivals, it is likely to become outdated.
If you want to watch blu ray films and play games occasionally, go for the PS3. If you want a console with a lot of titles and a reliable online service,  get the 360. Of the two I'd choose the 360, but in 2 years or so I might need to reconsider.

Xbox live problems

Are there any other Xbox live accounts on your xbox? And you're sure there's no parental controls on that account?
  • I think maybe your Windows Live id that is used when you sign in might be automatically knowing your age? if you're under 18, I think it blocks mature ratings automatically.
You could do a couple google searches, but I'm pretty sure it wont let you download Above Teen rated content if you're underage, UNLESS, the parent email can be used to sign in and change the rating limitations.(I think the parent email was used when initially setting up the xblive account on the xbox.

Did you set up the account, or did your parents?

I don't think this may have helped you at all, but I had to try, and give some input. As I was in this predicament once also, What I did was had to sign in to xbl, and goto manage account, and somewhere in those settings I found the restrictions on ratings. But I belive it asks for a parent to sign in or something. (but i used my 2ndary e-mail when it told me to enter parent e-mail, so I guess that's a little different.

When you get to the Market place scroll down with your D-pad and stop on Redeem Code, insert the code info from your new card, select the profile you want to associate it with and that should update your account with your new paid subscription.

Xbox live

Live goes down randomly everyday now after christmas. You can check the status of Xbox live on www.xbox.com. They usually will post a report when they are having problems. I guess all the new Xbox owners after christmas are clogging up the Live system and it can't handle everyone. Very aggrevating. They need to get their servers upgraded... fast. Nothing like paying monthly for something and not being able to use it because a ton of other people are using the free one month trial that comes with the system.

Xbox 360 wont connect xbox live

Your xbox live membership may have run out. i had the same problem yesterday as mine had expired. The automatic renewal had not taken place as my credit card details were out of date.

You can check your xbox membership status via your PC at xbox.com. log in woith your email address and password you supplied at the time you initially joined xbox live.
