Breaker trips when Kenmore refridgerator is plugged in

That is Not a good thing.

I will assume the breaker trips when the motor on the fridge kicks in.

How old are the breakers and how old is the fridge? If either is approaching 20 years, I would call an electrician for the breakers and/or go to the wholesale fridge warehouse for a new fridge..

Old fridges need to be replaced, old breakers - even more so.

There is one device that might buy you some time --- a voltage regulator. But don't hold your breath. Rather, read this paper:

http://www.esat.kuleuven.be/electa/publications/fulltexts/pub_1147.pdf

Ultimately you lef t of many details -- like did you just move your old fridge into a new place? Or did the fridge work great for x amount of years and then this started happening? Lots of stuff to know here.

As an example: One time a mouse chewed my wires just enough to cause trouble, but not enough to clue my meter - the meter said the voltage was OK. It can get complicated.

NTL, I doubt you went very long without a fridge.

My side by side refrigerator started tripping the ground fault protector on the plug after being in the garage and working well. I have had the refrigerator for 10 years and this is the first problem I...

First question I would have is if the outlet is a dedicated line with nothing else on it. Also, does the GFCI in question have a high enough amperage rating for the refridgerator. Next, make sure the circuit breaker is not also a GFCI circuit breaker. You cannot have a redundant GFCI in the same circuit, one or the other. It can be very tricky to put an appliance like that on a GFCI circuit due to its compressor motor. Motors have a large amperage draw on them when they start so, if your fridge runs at around 10 amps, it can take three times as much to start (30 amps) which would trip a 20 amp GFCI.

Rrefrigerator not running no lights on no power, it worked today, and now nothing! The fridge is only 1 1/2 years old

check to see if you have a ground fault circuit on the receptacle you are using the frig on. Or maybe a breaker in the breaker box might be tripped.

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

Unless there is a dedicated circuit of 20 amps to the refrigerator this will continue to happen When your refrigerator goes into defrost and other things like lights fans air conditioners are on the same circuit it will have no choice to not trip the breaker. Try this turn the breaker off and how may thing in your house stop working? You need a 20 AMP circuit or this will possibly damage the compressor or weaken the breaker because it has tripped so many time. Thanks, Please rate my solution, I have done this work for 30 years. Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

get an inexpensive clamp amp meter (Harbor Freight has them). Turn off power to the plug. Remove plug from wall but do not disconnet wires. turn fridge OFF. plug the unit in the recept. turn on the power. set the meter for the higest reading (amps) & clamp it around the black wire. turn the fridge ON & observe start up current & the "run" current. If the fridge is within limits on the data plate the problem is in the wiring circuit, maybe a loose connection either @ the plug or the breaker. if there are several plugs in the circuit, the problem could be in one of them. In addition, if there is a gfi plug in this circuit, it could be faulty also.

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

Your fridge should draw no more than 5amp. Presuming your breaker is at least 15amp there's a problem. Move to a different circuit first. If the condition persists check the start relay on the compressor. I have a suspicion the circuit may have another item you are not aware of.

Tripping a circuit breaker (by any device) is an issue that is not easily (safely) addressed on-line. Besides an actual problem with the device in question, one must consider: a) Too many high current devices already on the circuit (toasters, microwaves, washing machines, etc.) that contribute/cause the issue. b) A circuit breaker that trips much more easily than it should (from tripping too much - common problem), and should be replaced.
c) The device in question needs the compressor replaced (very rare in a two-year old device), but can become damaged during shipment - on it's side. d) Damaged sub-component (eg. one of the fans), probably easily found by locating the source of the noise.

Fridge/freezer trips my circuit breaker

This sounds like a grounded wire in your defrost system. Start by finding the defrost timer and checking the wires. One may have been pulled loose or pinched while it was being moved.

Refrigerator tripping ground fault circuit

The thing you were "spinning" was the defrost timer, not a circuit breaker. The problem may be you have a shorted defrost heater; It is on a timer that runs it for 30 minutes every 8 hours of compressor use.
