Hi,

Initially, this would indicate that somehow the firmware of the camera has been messed up and/or no longer functioning as designed. May I suggest a check on your current firmware and try an update should it be warranted. You can find more details and information here. The page also gives the instructions on how to go about it. The latest firmware not only restores everything to default but add new features.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

Try to force the camera to reset. This could be done by removing tthe battery grip and the batteries in the body for an hour or so. This is something similar to what melnavz have suggested.

Hello
Did you cahnage your battery, some cases that battery is the cause of the error, If you try to fix such problem you will be undergo disassembling the parts, but it is theoritically hard to disassemble since many parts are very sensitive. in that case maybe i can suggest you to call for the service tech specialized in pentax camera. melnavz

Try using another lens, if this solves the problem you have a lens problem. If not the camera is the problem.

Pentax *ist DS digital SLR Autofocus problem

Being an SLR camera, you should try another lens. It may be a servo fault in the lens. If the lens is okay, then it can be anything in the lens sensing, lens control drive circuits, and or lens to camera interface area. This would have to be properly diagnosed and serviced.

Pentax K110D and Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX DG

The Penta K110D has a 1.5X crop factor so a 17mm lense would be the equivalent to 25.5mm (in 35mm standard), therefore may not give you a 103 angle view. You would not really notice that much difference between 17 and 18mm.

PENTAX IST DS PROBLEM WITH INTERNAL FLASH

First make sure the camera is not set to No Flash on the shooting mode dial. Also, in P, Tv, Av or M modes the flash reverts to manual and must be raised manually by pressing the button next to the viewfinder.

Compatible Flash Units

pentax istDL does not support TTL flash metering unlike most of the other pentax DSLRs. You need a flash that is P-TTL. How annoying hey? I was pretty bummed, but it made me learn to shoot fully manual...

i think that there is only one P-TTL flash on the market at present. (AF540 or something)

good luck...

It seems to be a connection issue between the Lens and the Camera body. Perhaps the mount is not true to the body Ask Pentax about this their Technical Support Team

My Pentax *ist* ds doesn't power on half the time!

Check the battery contacts in the camera. Perhaps they are dirty and need a clean. Make sure you're not using Alkaline battereis and if you use rechargeables they are fully recharged and not getting too old to hold a full charge. Apart from that, without further information I can't help any more. BMW

Date/time problem on *ist d

There is a small re-chargeble battery inside the camera that charges of the main battery. Chances are that battery had just drained when the date/time reset occured, but should be fine after you recharge.

On Camera Flash Problem and Lens Question

According to Pentax, the pop up flash does greatly reduce battery life. So, if you want them to last longer, use an external flash. The built-in flash is too low powered an too prone to produce red eyes to be of much use anyway. Any lens that goes from 28-300 is going to be much less sharp than one with a shorter zoom range, even if the lens designer uses such heroic measures as aspherical elements and LD glass. Consider the Tokina AT-X 24-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens as a very good alternative to the Tamron.
