Question about Mtd Yard - Man 160cc, 21" Self - Propelled Lawn Mower
First thing I would check is the air filter. Then the belt that drives the wheels. Open up the belt area and clean. Last I would check the carb. Good luck...Lee

The stalling is due to contaminated fuel, first remove the air filter clean and or replace, next remove the fuel from the tank, reach under the carb and tank the clamp and the fuel line off the carb, let it drain off, next step remove the float bowl(metallic round approx.2" diameter) loosen the bolt that holds it on mounted dead center of the float bowl, drop the float bowl but before you do make a visible mark on the outside of it center of the carb. body and facing outward to identitify the proper way it goes back on, then inspect the condition of the fuel in the bowl, if its cloudy, dirty, varnished, or has signs of water contamination, get a can of carburator cleaner and spray all the tiny orifices clear using the plastic straw that comes with the cleaner, also check the center bolt if it has a small orifice in the bolt be sure to spray that clear too as that is considered the main gas valve(wear eye and hand protection). Be careful of the black rubber seal gasket that seals the top of the float bowl to the carb. base don't want it to leak when you put it all back together.
Reinstall the float bowl, fuel line & clamp, fuel tank, air filter, and fill tank with "fresh" 87 octane regular fuel, please don't forget to always have a can of starter fluid, spray a little in the carburator and prime the ball at least 5 times, starting fluid will help to make the starting of every gas motor that much easier on your arms...you know the pulling syndrome.....pull the cord....walla!!! You are done and the mower now runs like new!!
