You need to change handle holder (the one with spring at the bottom of handle), mostly spring disconnected and it can,t be fixed.

Kirby heritage 2 handle wont stay in the upright posision keeps falling backwards

Two things; your bag may be too full and needs replaced. (it doesn't take much to make them top-heavy) or the pin at the back of the base of the handle is not extended.

When I change back to upright cleaner I can never get the belt to work

Hi Andy, Please forgive me, but I have to say this just in case. Make sure you put the powerhead on the machine, BEFORE you turn the handle to line up the green arrows. If the machine is a few years old, it may be because the belt has stretched, and no longer holds enough tension when dissengaged, and falls off inside. If you have the shampooer attachment, try borrowing the belt from that, and put it on the vacuum powerhead to see if it still happens. If it doesn't, then there's your culprit. I hope this helped. I'll check back to see. Good luck!

Wheel on front, right side keeps falling off. The spline doesn't seem to want to hold anymore.

Hi,
This is what I would recommend that you do....send it to them and you will get back a machine that is like brand new again!!

The vacuum has started making a much louder noise. like something is coming apart or is stuck/clogged. Noticed the fan type blade has several cracks, some bigger than others. could this be the problem?

Yes, this is very likely. The fan is made of plastic, because a metal fan would be so heavy that it would make the motor burn out unnecessarily fast. Sucking up things like loose change, pebbles, screws, etc. can crack the fan, and unfortunately this requires the front part of the motor to be disassembled. I'm pretty handy with Kirbys but I wouldn't attempt this type of repair myself. Best to leave it to a professional.

Do be sure to remove the em-tor unit (the plastic part that attaches to the blower in back) and check to make sure no large items are rattling around in there. Just unhook the bag clip from the handle, grasp the em-tor unit at the base and turn firmly but gently. When it pops off, all the things that were too heavy to get sucked upward into the bag will fall out. This might help, but it is not recommended to run a Kirby with a damaged fan. It is bad for the motor.

Regarding my Kirby Generation 3 upright vacuum cleaner: the handle does not lock into place, but rather falls to the floor. Any thoughts on how to get it to stay in place? Also, I lost my owner/operator...

The plate that catches the handle to lock has a hidden spring behind that plate.I would leave it alone for the unit is pressed together. Used ones are found most everyday on Ebay. The owners manual maybe found on this website

I have a kirby legend 11, the long handle is loose, how do I tighten it please?

If it is not staying up the handle falls down then is caused by the handle spring assembly. Replace the assembly and it should do just fine. There about 7 different components inside the shell, it's usually the spring but after so many years the bushing and shaft could be bad as well. Recommend to change the whole assembly and it does require a specialty tool to tension the spring assembly.

The "switch" refered to is probably the handle release button.
