You might try running an insulated wire and ground directly from the battery.

People say when i talk they here a hum sometimes ,everything is new but radio, and its in a frieghtliner

I would try an inline noise filter, the hum they are hearing is most likely vehicle electronic interference from alternator, etc. On my older Camaro I had the same hum in stereo and others heard it on CB, I installed noise filter and everything worked great. You can find them at truck stops, CB shops and some auto parts stores, they usually run in the $5-$10 range.

Cb is fine when vehicle is off , but when vehicle is running it feeds motor noise back threw my cb?

There are several things you can do to help limit motor noise interference but first you have to figure out if the noise is coming from the power wire, or the antenna system. Here is how to do that.

  1. Start the car, and turn on the radio.
  2. Trun the squelch off so that you can hear the interference.
  3. Unscrew the antenna coax from the back of the radio.(make sure that you do not key the radio at this point. It is bad to key a radio without an antenna hooked up.)
If the noise goes away when you unplug the coax, the noise is getting in from the antenna system. It's either getting in from bad coax, poorly grounded antenna, or position of antenna. For instance, if its mounted on the back of the truck some times it picks up the fuel pump noise.

If the noise is still there then it is coming in via the power cable. If this is the case then there are a few things you can do.

First. Make sure the radio has a good ground. Next, run the power wire right to the battery. This eliminates most noise. Twisting the power cord helps cancel out some noise. And a knot right at the plug end of the cord also helps. Lastly, if the noise is still bad you can get a power wire ground loop noise canceling unit. This stops most noise.

You need to install an inline noise filter on the power cable. This will remove all of the above problems. You can usually pick one up at radio shack or find them online. Search for a 12V DC noise filter or automotive DC filter.

CB radios use a frequency range and technology that is prone to noises both atmospheric, and man made. The height and gain of your new base antenna may produce more static than you may have noticed before. The question is 1) is the antenna close to any power lines to your home, 2) do you notice any increase or decrease of received signals compared to your mobile, 3) is the static steady or does it come and go.
