Craftsman lt 2000, blade not staying in place

Craftsman lt 2000, the little star shape that holds the blade in place has worn down and won't hold the blade still how do I replace, looks like its part of the pully. I'm trying to take off the blade but it keeps spinning behind the blade. It seems to be held on by 3 screws on deck do I have to replace it all? does anyone know what's the part called so I can look it up?

I would need a complete sears model number to look this up for you, however, you will need to remove the intire blade spindle housing, then you can remove just the shaft from the housing. and just replace the shaft. Will save a lt of money.
if you can find the complete model number you can go on the internet to

mtd.com/parts or to ayp.com/parts

and you can pull up a parts diagram and find the exact part number and order it online, or take model number to sears and they will either have it in stock or can order it for you. Sears will however cost you a fair amount more then ordering online. I hope this helps you

If the bolt holding the blades on is tight, then you will need to remove the deck and remove the blade to inspect the five pointed star on the bottom of mandrel (that is what sears calls it, other manuf. call it a spindle) . If this is damaged you will need to replace the mandrel. They run a little over sixty dollars.

I hope this is helpful.

How do I change the madrel on a craftsman Lt 2000 42" 17 hp? The star bolt is worn down

remove the deck from the mower, take off the blade, take off the deck drive belt, take out the bolts which hold the mandrel to the deck. put new mandrel in, reverse the whole order. do yourself a favor and take lots of before pictures so you do not have to ask how to put the belts back on. mandrels can be obtained at small engine and mower repair shops. you may just want to replace all of them while you have it apart as they are all the same age and wear.

Check for foreign objects caught under the deck, as well as for a bent blade. If that's not the problem, look at the mower deck belt - is it burnt or worn in a spot? Take it off, and see if you can turn the blade spindles and idler pulley freely. If they scrape badly or are frozen in place, that's the problem.

You can use the belt to hold the pulley from turning
( you ARE going to replace the belt aren't you?)

Simply use locking pliers (vise grip) to clamp the belt sides together close to the pulley. Then wra the other other end of the loop around something convenient to keep the pulley from turning. Guaranteed to hold the ******.

A row of uncut grass left between blaces when mowing

THE answer that FINALLY worked for me. Torque the bolt that holds on the blade to the recommended torque specified in your owners manual (for my Exmark this torque is 120 ft-lbs). When I first used the torque wrench, i was quite surprised by the amount of addional force I needed to apply to reach 120 ft-lbs Exmark blades have a round blade hole with a washer and therefore, relies only on friction provided by torquing bolt to the proper torque to prevent slippage so that the blade rotates at the same speed as the spindle. When slippage between the blade and spindle occurs, blade tip speed slows leaving uncut grass.
Note: this solution will NOT work for mowers with a blade and spindle design which uses a positive means (e.g., a star shaped hole on the blade) that assures the blade rotates at the same speed as the spindle with no slippage.

Blade lock on Craftsman 10 amp recip

The guide foot comes completely out by wiggling and pulling a little harder than you would think. It is held in place by friction in addition to the two screws. Once the guide foot is removed, remove the front metal support piece by prying it out of the groove in the rubber boot. You can then access the pin and blade release lever. Make sure the return spring is in place on the rear side of the blade lock latch.
