Question about Refrigerators

3 Answers

I have an Amana(BB120) refer with the freezer on the bottom. The unit is ten years old. The refer is working fine. The freezer, however, won't lower the temperature below 31-32 degrees regardless of the setting of the coldness control. Since it is cooling to some extent, I'm confused as to what the problem may be.

I don't think you understood what I said when I stated my problem. The problem is with the freezer; not the refer part of the unit. However, the freezer's thermostat may be a possible culprit. I'll have it checked out.

Ginko, you certainly have given me some avenues to pursue. At this point I can tell you that:
The door (s) shut properly and the rubber seals are intact and functional.
    The freezer's fan is running.
The coils are not obviously obstructed or dirty.

So, I guess I'll have to employ an appliance tech to check for thermostat, circuit heater, fuse, defrost thermistor or control board performance. Thanks for your assistance.

Melnavz, your response is unintelligible. Maybe you ought to read what you said and figure out what you meant to say.

There may be different causes when the freezer is not reaching to the low themperature it should get to.

Check that the doors are closing properly and the gaskets are ok.

A common cause can be related to evaporator coil problems. Check that the fan is working and that the the coil is not iced up.

Leave the fridge off , and with door opened for over 24 hours, until you defrost ice condensed on the evaporator coil.
After this the fridge should cool up properly , at least first few days. Check also: Cleaning the condenser coils

Check that the evaporator fan is working , if it is not you will need to check the voltage coming to the fan , and eventually replace the part. Check here :

  • Being the fridge quite old it is also possible that you need to take out gas weigh and recharge it, this may resolve problem.

If at this point it still does not cool properly you will need to identify the fault testing parts eventually involved. It'may be a open circuit heater or fuse, or a faulty defrost thermistor on the freezer evaporator or a faulty control board.

Start checking fan and coil and doing a two-days defrost, if this does not work recharge gas.

    Regards

    Hi,

It is always recommended that the temp. should be between 35-37degrees.
If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. i recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician if you cannot replace it by yourself.

    Goodluck..

Yea i realize as what i say, but that is the common problem, when The fridge not function properly, there something wrong with the thermostat which monitor the temperature of the fridge. this caused by leakage, Dirt accumulated in condenser, motor comes to an end which cannot support the needed requirement of the evaporator, not proper alignment of the condenser that affect the effeciency. Gas recharging only is possible if there is a leak to your condenser means that no more gas. Gas is no way to exit because that is closed. Gas recharging is the SOP to all mechanical servicing pretending that is the cause but that is not.

General cleaning is the only way to your problem and checking the motor, evaporator, condenser alignment. if found leak inevaporator thats the time gas recharging is needed.
