Question about HP LaserJet 1012 Printer

1 Answer

HP Laserjet 1012 - Little smudges on page.

I have an HP Laserjet 1012 that has always worked great. A few weeks ago, it started showing about 4 little smudges down the right had side when printing - about 3" apart and about 1.5" in from the right side of the paper. A few days ago they started showing up right along the margin and today more are there about 3.25" from the left side. I'd love to save this little printer, so any help would be appreciated!

You probably have an excesive amount of toner building up on your rollers or fuser. A cleaning done by a certified technician should take care of this problem for you.

Take the toner cartridge out of the printer. Shake it side to side. Reinstall it and print something.
See if that fixes the output.
Could also be the transfer roller.

I have a LaserJet 1012 and it has always worked. It is now printing blank pages despite having a new ink catridge. How should I fix this? Thanks.

Just pick the strip from the cartridge, SEE the cartridge booklet or refer to user manual about replacing cartridge

Horizontal lines and smudges across the page at 1.5" intervals down the page.

Judging from the distance between the lines, you probably have a defective cartridge. Smudges are generally caused by a defective fuser, which means it's time to send the printer out for repair.

Smudges and 'ghost image" down the page from true image, little used printer, not even a whole cartridge used

Laser Printers that printouts can be smudged usually means the Transfuser (the part that settles the toner onto paper) is not fully functioning or damaged. Simply replace it and it should be back to normal. However, these Transfusers are quite expensive. So you may be better off to get a quote for a new one if out of warranty.

HP Laserjet 1012

You need to print the configuration page :

=> Power on the printer and makes sure it comes to the 'Ready' state.
=> Press and hold the Go button between 5 and 10 seconds until the attention and ready lights flash.
=> Release the button. If you held the button down for too long it would flash the Attention LED.
=> Press and release the Job cancel button to start all over again if you held the button down for too long.
