Thanks. I agree because when I asked the repair shop, tthey quoted 75 pounds which is too expensive for a CD drive.

Dvd rom reading cds not dvds

Not uncommon issue with ALL DVD drives, it is often a failure in the DVD circuitry of the drive and will require that the drive be replaced entirely. There is no fix or repair for this type of issue.

PS. When problems occur with optical media, it never hurts to run a CD/DVD clearer disk through the drive. These disks have physical bristles (brushes) embedded on the data side of the disk that will dust of the laser lens.

CD tray opens and shuts fine. With CD loaded and shut the screen still says NO DISK. These are disks which have always played without problem on this CD player. Is there anything I can try before taking...

When the CD player loads properly and still reads as no disk this indicates that the player lens (Optical device which reads the disk information) Is either dirty or bad. The only option you have is to get a disk lens cleaner and run it on the system. Once you run it, it is supposed to work if the lens is not spoilt. Otherwise you will just have to replace the lens by taking it to a repairer.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

There is a disk in the CD ROM but still the computer says "please verify that disk is in your CD ROM drive."

lens in the drive might have gone bad...replacing the lens costs half of the amount of the drive price value... also replacing the lens will work only for 2-3 months... better buy a new drive with an year of warranty and use it as much as u can for one complete year...

RCA - Dvd - Video Cd - Cd Mp3 Decoder : Model# - DRC220N Problem - When disk is inserted, it says "Reading Disk". Then says "Incompatible Disk", Then says "No Disk".

Have you already tried to clean the laser pickup lens?

If not, then maybe you should try (there are youtube videos explaining it).

If the unit has been operating for a few years or so and if cleaning the lens doesn't solve anything, then the next most likely problem is the spindle motor which needs to be either cleaned (which is a bit difficult) or replaced (which is either less difficult than cleaning or entirely impossible). The other motor that can cause problems is the slide (laser pickup position) motor, but if the buildup of the disk mechanism makes it impossible to replace the motor(s), then unfortunately the only solution is to replace the entire disk mechanism.

Won't read any disks

HI. this may be a failed optical assembly, which will require you to replace the entire DVD-ROM drive, or you can simply replace the optics. I would try to clean the lens with a cleaning disk. This will confirm the damage. If the cleaning disk dose not produce positive results, have the optics replaced, or just replace the entire DVD-ROM drive.

Dvd disk motor does not run and i have no screen display on memorax 8.4 inch portable disk player have power and charged battery. Lazer comes on when door is closed without CD for a second.

HI. the optical lens assembly has failed. this units optical assembly is one whole piece. the actual issue here is a failed spin motor but, due to the fact that the assembly is integrated, you will need to have the entire assembly replaced.

No disk

When you get no disk error, that is because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others. Often the problem get worse in time.
Try first using a CD lens cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD lens, or the whole drive unit.

Cd writer of my PC sometimes reads the cd or dvd inserted or some times show me the message disk not foun or shows the drive empty, means no data in the cd or dvd.what is the problem?

if its old, its probably that the carbons of the rotator arent working well, so the best thing you could do is change the entire thing, replacing it is more dificult and expensive..
you could also try cleaning the lens.. but my best bet its that it isnt rotating fast enough to read the info on the disks
