Cub cadet cuts out unless with full choke

Mouse ate through plug wire. Replaced sprk plg & ignition coil(one piece). Didn't know 2 gap @ first n ran engine 10 secs. or so. Then gaped to .007 n tightened. Now won't stay running without full choke on. Managed to cut lawn but not running right...any ideas? Replaced fuel filter(previous one on backwards),also replaced spark plugs, but put old ones back in. Still have to have choke out fully to stay running...help!

Use a thin business card to set the module to flywheel magnets gap--rotate the magnets under the module poles, insert the card between the poles and magnets, loosen the module screws and allow the module to contact the magnets. Tighten the screws and rotate the wheel to remove the card. Rotate the wheel one turn and make sure the gap doesn't close up at any point. The spark plug gap is 0.020". Having to keep the choke closed to make it run implies that the main jet in the carburetor is plugged or if adjustable, the setting is too lean. Make sure the air cleaner is not plugged. Turn the jet screw CW to stop (lightly), then back out 1-1/2 turns CCW. If this helps, you may turn it either way until the engine runs smoothly without any choking required after warm-up. It it gets better, but still not running correctly, you may have to disassemble the carburetor and clean it with spray carburetor cleaner. Hope some of this helps!

The header says that this is a McCullough saw, but your text implies a 4-stroke lawn mower engine. What is the actual engine and who made it? In the first part of your text, you replaced one spark plug wire/module. In the latter part, you say that you replaced multiple plugs, but returned the originals. What does the carburetor and fuel tank look like? We need to form a mental picture of what you are working with to be able to offer better advice. Good luck!

I've seen this before and replaced the wire wrapped cable with a different type cable (plastic/steel reinforced) and that solved the problem. Hope this will help.

Make sure air filter is clean or replaced. Check oil level. Change oil if not done this year. Remove plug, clean and gap. Ensure gasoline isn't over 30 days old and use a gas stabilizer if gas cap isn't marked E85.

My cub cadet model 12A-18M7010 will not start. It has an automatic choke. No primer. I've changed the gas, checked the plug, cleaned the carbuerator. What could it be?

Also check the air filter. Some times if the paper filter is wet or clogged it will choke out the machine by not allowing air in to the ignition chamber.

Engine does not start. Starter & solenoid work fine. Checked air filter, fuel filter, fuel level, level in choke position. Plug is kind of flooded. Increased plug gap slightly. There is no spark....

Most small engines use a flywheel with a magnet embedded in it and an ignition coil with a core that sits a few thousandths away from the flywheel. Ignition coils are common failures probably because they come from our wonderful Chinese friends. They have demolished all US manufacturers. If you replace the coil, use some gauge to measure the gap between coil core and the flywheel magnet surface before removing the old coil. Otherwise you may spend a little time using trial & error to get the engine running again.
If your engine is a Briggs and Stratton, you can find very complete maintenance downloadable information on their website. This will pertain to the engine only, not the mower.
Dunno about Tecumseh, haven't had much need for service info on those.

I had the same problem , found out it was the coil was getting hot. I replaced the coil which was not hard , remove 2 screws an unhook 2 wires. You have to get the coil from a dealer , in my area anyway. Hope this helped.
