Question about Epson Stylus Pro 9800 InkJet Printer

Black dot at the point where head starts it's return

Printer is leaving a black dot at the point where the head starts it's return - not at the edge of the print - if a person was shot against a white background there would be a line of dots following the shape of the body about 1/2" past the edge of the body

Probably the head have something on it ..and it (probably static electricity cause something to stick on and now the ink is getting to that and causes the dots..Run the clean head utility ..and it will be ok ..If you do not have a manual I attach one here for further information you may need.
All the maintenance procedure are explained in the 5th chap. and also with guidance on how to perform them ..

than open it and clean the developer and the head manually .cause it has something stuck on it that causes that dot ...and it only does it cause it is probably on the left side..and it only touchs the paper when its turning back ..there can not be any other thing but a stray ink issue..

Thank you, I'll give that a try.

Every page has 3 or 4 black dots right down the center. How do I get rid of these?

Are the spots the same on every page?

Start a print from tray 1/manual feed and just as the trailing edge of paper is entering the machine; quickly open it to stop print and take out the cartridge and look at the drum and the paper underneath. If the issue is there at that point then it would point to the cartridge. If not then it is in the fuser area.

If it is the drum area:

Clean the loose toner up with a dry lint free cloth.

If it is the fuser, it may have a bad spot and would need to be replaced.

Prints black dots at bottom of page - photoconductor was replaced earlier today

The black dots could be a few things, the most likely would have something to do with the drum area because the dots didn't appear until after service. If the dots are only about an inch apart it is probably the charge roller. If there is only 1-2 dots per page, the issue is likely with the drum. These figures are assuming you are running 8 1/2 x 11 paper with the long edge being fed in first. If this is the case, you can change the paper to feed with the short edge first and this may get you by until the technician gets back out to fix it.

When I print I have black dots on it and a red

The drum probably needs to be cleaned. Refer to the Routine Maintenance section in Appendix C of your Users Guide.

Documents are printing fine but the right hand edge has black dots on it like 6-8 sapced out along the right hand edge.

check your print cartridge and your fusing element. you will need to dead cycle the printer to check the cartridge (print a document, when it is half way through turn off the printer, check the toner cartridge for your dots.) are you able to see your fusing element by opening the rear door? check the edges for dots on the fusing element. also there is a transfer roller or belt in your printer, that may also be dirty.

Black dots on printout

This is not a solution, but if it is any help, I have just started having the same problem. The dots are about 1mm diameter, exactly 75mm apart and 30mm from the right hand edge of the page. I recently refilled the black cartridge with toner and reset the mechanical device that registers the cartridge as empty. The problem is unlikely to be the cartridge, however, since that does not determine where toner is deposited.

Epson 9800 Prints black dotted vertical line

This is a workaround - I too need a definitive answer. Symptom: black dotted vertical line 1/2 to 3/4" from leftmost image edge. I have begun adding single vertical line to my prints .25" from the left edge of the paper to force the "dots" off my print - this seems to have the desired affect, but it does not answer the cause or provide a true remedy (it will save many of your prints while we wait for complete solution). dkh

Black dot in left margin.

Hi,

If the black dots were not present with the old cartridge, then one can only suspect the new cartridge at fault. This rarely happens but it do happen. Chances are that there is a defect on the drum inside the new cartridge. You can visually check for this imperfection by removing the cartridge and sliding the protective cover to partially expose the drum (not in direct sunlight as they are light sensitive). There is a white gear at the side that you can manually rotate ( a bit stiff) to check for the possible fault. you can approximate the possible location by aligning a printed paper with the series of dots against the drum to give you an idea where to concentrate on.

Should this be the case, it is possible for you to return the new cartridge for a replacement.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
