There is an energy saver switch on your refrigerator that turns a heater on to keep the case warm so that condensation doesn't form. if the humidity is low in your house you can set the switch to where it says save energy and it will turn the heaters off. if water starts appearing on your refrigerator - freezer then turn the switch back on.

Insulation does not melt - gaskets may be affected by hot temps.

Your condenser coils may be located on sides of fridge. If so the unit will be warm to the touch on the outside.

Hot freezer frame

the freezer frame is hot because it is used to disipate the heat from the coil and keeps the door frame from condensations at the door gasket.

When i close the refrigerator the freezer door opens. what causes this and what do i need to do to fix it?

you can try to raise the front legs a bit and put some heavy things on the rack on the door so it won't pop open.if the door opens and closes correctly this should help, also how is the gasket on the door?wash around the frame where the gasket touches the frame and wash the gasket, there's a magnet inside the gasket that helps hold the door shut.check to make sure no food or draws are sticking out to far and hitting the door when it's closing.

Hot door seal

Hi

There could be few reasons for your problem….
If your refrigerator is running too long or more than normal:
You may need to clean the condenser coils. This should be done about every 6 to 12 months. You can use a condenser cleaning brush, this comes in handy for cleaning hard to reach areas. Your refrigerator may be running too long, check the door gaskets for proper sealing, especially the bottom section. Clean the gasket surface where your door gaskets meets the metal with warm soapy water.
However there is a part of the condenser called the mullion loop that adds heat to keep moisture from building up and causing the door gaskets to stick. If it's too hot to the touch, first check your frige and freezer temps. You'll obviously know if the frige is too cold, but you may not know if the freezer is too cold. The freezer should be between 5-10 deg above zero. Any colder and the frige will have to work harder and would create more heat. Also check the condenser coils. If they are dirty it will prevent the frige from removing the heat properly. The condenser should be cleaned at least annually. Most friges have a condenser fan motor. Make sure the motor is running and the fan blades are clean. Most frdiges also have a cardboard type panel on the back at the bottom. That panel directs the air flow across the condenser and must be in place. If it's missing or damaged its need to be replaced.

Let us know if you have something more to ask else please accept the solution.

Can I replace the freezer door seal on a kitchen aid myself?

some door gaskets snap into a track and others are held on to by screws in a metal frame. you can pull the back of the gasket apart to see which you have.

are you sure that the gasket is bad? you can do the dollar bill test by placing a dollar bill between the gasket and door frame and shutting the door. if the dollar bill fits snugly and is not loose the gasket is good. However you may be able to look at your gasket and see that it is torn or warped and not sealing good.

replacing the door gasket can be a little tricky but with a little patience and some very hot water to soak the new gasket in to make it easier to work with, you should be ok.

keep the bottom of your refrigerator and freezer frames clean (this is where everything spills and gets sticky) to keep the gasket from sticking to the frame and tearing up over time.

Freezer door does not close properly

inspect the seal all the way around the door. check to make sure that it is not in a bind when you open and close the door. if it is you can try a little wd40 or silicone spray on the gasket and frame of the refrigerator where the gasket meets the frame. this will help it slide accros the frame better.

if the gasket is bound up and out of shape, you can heat it up with very hot water to straighten it.

make sure that you keep the gasket and the door facing clean. spillage from the use of the refrigerator/freezer can cause the gasket to stick especially at the bottom.

My whirlpool gold side by side is extremely warm bordering on hot when you touch the upright section between the fridge and freezer, (where the doors meet)

As long as it doesnt affect cooling operation, this will be normal. There is a heater in that area meant to keep the door gasket from building frost. Without it the door gasket wont properly stick giving you that air tight seal.

The freezer door pops open when the refrigerator door closes

there was an service flash on some type of these frig's but the fix was only a small spacer on the frig door where the gasket meet the frame not a very good fix to save frustation try less force or then again try to gap the gasket a bit not too much to allow air to enter too much

Area around freezer door is very hot to the touch. ice maker works, but after awhile the ice will melt. freezer is freezing.

HI, That area being hot is a sign the refigerator is not cooling properly. We need to pin point the cooling problem.
First, are you noticing any frost build up inside the rear freezer panel?
Are the fans and the compressor running?
Please let me know so I can assist you through this.
