First - check the BIOS settings to see if the hard disk is detected.
If not re-seat the data and power cables on the hard drive and on the motherboard. Reboot the computer to see if it boots up. If not is the hard disk LED flashing as the computer boots up?
If not then to further check the hard disk, remove the hard disk and attach it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see this as an external hard drive nor open the various folders and files then the hard disk is definitely faulty.
THE FIX.
Install a new hard drive in your Dell and install Windows on this hard drive, together with the Dell's device drivers and your programs.
You can download the Dell's device drivers from a another computer that has Internet access.

These drivers are available from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

Will a latop work without main local disk

Yes, and can load from an external harddisk (if your BIOS supported to load from external harddisk).
there's nothing special if you run your computer without a harddisk.

Hi my Transcend 320 GB harddisk is not getting detected. Storejet 320Gb

hello

connect the USB external hard disk to usb port by the way disconnect other working harddisks
available on the system, boot the system with bootable cd/floppy go to command prompt and run
chkdsk on this drive

Also download "mbrfix" connect all working harddisks along with the nondetecting harddisk and run mbrfix for the USB defective harddisk

Try using different USB data transfer cable, if power source adapter is used check for rated power output in multimeter for this adapter, if found defective replace it with new/good adapter with same
specifications

Bad luck if harddisk controller has failed you have to go in for new harddisk

GOOD LUCK ooo

1 logical harddisk degraded, RAID Poweredge

Revert back to original configuration of hdd in your RAID setup. Boot to SCIS BIOS and double check functionality of hard drives. The error is probably telling you that Disk1 is degraded because disk 0 is failing and you removed the wrong hard drive.

My Hp Pavillion laptop dv2214tu doesnot boot beyond the HP INVENT logo page. I tried performing the Primary Hard Disk check as stated on the HP Support site but its not happening.I also reseated the RAM...

Unscrew your Laptop HardDrive bay and remove your harddisk first, then try to boot your system wthout the Harddisk inside. If it Boots past the HP Invent Logo Page, then your harddisk is the one that is faulty, if still doesnt, get another good, working RAM, apart from the one in your system, and use it to test your laptop...making sure that the harddisk is still not inside...then if it boots insert your Harddisk back with the new RAM, and restart your system.
If in the first case it boots (i.e wihout the harddisk inside)...then it means your harddrive is faulty, just retrieve your file on it and get a new one.
If in the second case it works (i.e with a new external RAM) then just change your RAM instead.

My computer didn't recognize my harddis

Ok, the data may not be lost.
Need info:

- what kind of HD
- what operating system you use; windows?
- what kind of HD, is it a SATA drive?
- When you boot, (windows) do you see the drive (the faulty one) note the drive make and model number
- is this the BOOT drive or you just use it for data?

BIOS cannot detect SATA harddisk

Most motherboards have multiple plug-ins for Sata drives. Try another plug in. This will typically solve this type of issue.

EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE 160GB

then due to over voltage in the external ports the harddisk cable might have got burnt or may be where you connect the cable to the harddisk there in the circuit board the pins might have got touched with one another and it may have got short circuited and it might have got burnt away ...

i think your harddisk will be under warranty still as it is new one so just make use of warranty and get the harddisk replaced from where you purchased ...

if you dont have the warranty then the harddisk is dead you cant make it work by anyway even if you contact the technician too he cant help because harddisks cant be repaired once it is removed it is gone ...

i am sure that your harddisk will be under warranty if you have buyed the new one ...
