Question about Linksys BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router W/4 Port Switch, Retail Box (DSLSBEFSR41)

Cannot connect to internet using this~help!

Hi, im struggling to connect to the internet using this router. I've used many other routers/hubs/switchs before, but this one seems "stubborn". I've read numerous different post and forums but I just can't seem to get it working. Every cable/cord is plugged in properly, I can connect to internet using direct connection or even the "uplink" port on the router itself. Im not really a networking genius, but i've setup many routers/modems/pcs for friends and family for a few years. I just wanna know if someone can please help me lol :(

Hi Friend,

Please follow the steps in order to resolve the issue;
I hope you have a cable internet connection.

1.Make sure the connections are properly fitted as mention below:

The wire coming out from the modem should be fitted into the WAN/INTERNET port of the router. Connect the computer to either of the four LAN ports.

2.At the back of the router there is RESET button, push and hold that button for 30 seconds and then release it.
3.Turn off the router for 30 seconds and turn it on after that time.
4.Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla) and hit enter
5.Enter the Username and Password(default password is admin and leave the username blank)
6.Under the setup page make sure "Obtain an IP Automatically" is selected and DHCP server is enabled. click save settings
7.Now Click MAC Address Clone
8.Enable MAC Clone Service and click the TAB Clone
9.Click save settings and turn off the router for 30 seconds and Turn it on after 30 seconds.

I hope this will resolve the issue.

Regards
Chiranjeet

I have an Internet Connectivity problem which I believe was caused by resetting our D-Link WBR-2310 router. We have a strange, perhaps illogical network setup in our office. Although it was set up before...

It appears you are not using the wireless connections on both the routers and the reason for using Router B was that there were insufficient LAN ports on Router A to connect to the two workstations that are connected to Router B.
To simplify your network, I suggest you replace Router B with a network hub or ethernet switch and connect the two workstations to this network hub/switch, then configure these two workstation to Obtain an IP address automatically. Router A will then issue IP address to these workstations via the network hub/switch.

I HAVE 22 MBPS OF WIRED INTERNET CONNECTION. I HAVE TRIED TO HOOK UP MY BLURAY PLAYER TO THE INTERNET WITH NO LUCK. MY ROUTER ONLY HAS 1 ETHERNET SLOT, SO I BOUGHT A DYNEX 4 PORT HUB TO EXPAND TO THE...

You mentioned in your question that you had a router. If it is actually a modem, then yes, you need a router.
The reason that the Ethernet hub is not working is that your modem will only give out 1 IP address to one device on the hub. With a router, the router uses the 1 IP address and shares access to the internet via that 1 IP address.
Yes, you'll need a router instead of a hub.

Make sure you're using a crossover ethernet cable to connect the router to the switch. Also make sure that the router has it's DHCP server up and running.

Only one computer can acces the internet in my hub , I have a Linksys NH1005 hub , I'm using cable dsl , but only one computer can acces the internet , it does not matter wich port

If you want to use more than one computers you will need to replace that hub with router. Best is to get wireless router because in most routers you have places for wired connections and also wireless connection.

Reason why you can't use more than one computer is simple because most ISP are allowing only one computer to be connected from DSL modem.

One static IP has internet. how on a LAN?

Hi,

You need two network adopters in your system.
Connect Internet connection in first Network card and from the other network card give it to your Switch or hub
If you are using XP system you can use Internet connection sharing to share the internet in your LAN systems.
Follow the steps to enable using ICS

1.Enable Internet Connection sharing in the LAN properties in the first network card.
2.Now your second network card automatically get an IP address in the range of 192.168.*.* series
3.Connect other systems in the LAN and make sure the system has selected Optain IP atomatically from DHCP.

You are all set.

There is also an advanced way to setup this .
Install IPCOP firewall in a system with two network cards and u can share the internet with the firewall settings

Is it possible to have 2 pieces routers to expand the distribution of internet connection instead of using router to hub? what type of cabling should i used to do it? please help thanks

I guess you have a single incoming internet connection and wish it to be shared.

You only require one DSL / Cable router. To share this connectivity you will need Ethernet / Cat5 or wireless.

An ethernet switch or hub will enable you to extend connectivity.

All cable should be CAT5e or CAT6.
Suggest you consider the slightly more expensive switches that have auto-uplink. The negates the need of crossover cables.

Regards B.

Just connected to cable modem from dsl

two things are you hooked up from the dsl to the router via Ethernet or usb is so check the settings in the router, it should be auto, so it could choose but lets not assume anything.may sure dhcp client or server is enabled on the router, if not it would not pick up the ip adddress from dsl.
Is the mac address of your computer hardcoded to your dsl, if it is then you would have to clone your pc mac to the router for it to work.
If this is not the case, try a different router if it works the router is faulty. if that does not work plug the dsl directly to the pc and go to start, run type ipconfig /all if you recieve an ip address and you can see a dns address from your isp and you can go to the internet, then the problem is your router, if not the problem is with you isp dsl, please contact them. was this helpful let me know.
