Question about Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II Digital Camera

Canon EOS 1D Mark II not connecting to PC via new FW400 cable

I have an old Canon EOS 1D Mark II which I would like to connect to my PC running Windows 7 64-bit via a FireWire 400 (in both ends) in order to change the Personal Functions on the camera. The cable is brand new from Belkin, but when I connect the camera all I get is the familiar windows sound of a connection made. Nothing else happens. No message pops up that the device is ready for use and the camera does not show in "My Computer". I have installed the latest WIA drivers for the camera. What am I missing? Why does it not connect?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I want to purchase a Canon 1D Mark II N camera with serial number 424586. Can you tell me whether it is USA or grey market version?

Are you buying it brand new? If so, if you are not buying it from an authorized Canon dealer, then it is probably gray market. If you are buying it on Ebay and it is cheaper than everybody else in the world, then it is probably gray market.

How do I figure out actuations on my camera?

Pre-PMA 2004: Canon today announced the impressively specified EOS-1D Mark II which features a new 8.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, it can shoot at just over eight frames per second and has a 40 frame JPEG image buffer (20 frames in RAW mode). This means that shooting at full resolution at full speed the camera is buffering 69 megapixels per second (or 100 MB/sec). Other changes include the addition of a USB port, an SD slot, the removal of the external white balance sensor as well as some subtle body styling changes.
