Hi,

It sounds like you may not have the correct driver installed for your printer.

If you could provide some more information:

Printer make and model.

Your computer's operating system.

Awaiting a reply.

Wayne

Whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system.

OK, I am not sure if you got this corrected or not. You have accepted the solution, but in the comment at the bottom it looks like you are providing the information. So I will respond as if it is still a problem.

The first thing I would do is uninstall all of your HP software for this printer and then make sure the printer is deleted in your Printers.

    Restart your computer.

Click HERE to access the HP site for your OS. There is a link to download the full feature software.

It has always been my recommendation to use the SAVE option when the download window opens instead of RUN.

When you choose SAVE a window will appear and click on DESKTOP on the left side. This will download your driver software to the desktop.

When the download is complete, make sure your printer has ink and paper. DO NOT CONNECT THE USB CABLE at this point.

Run (doubleclick) the downloaded program on the desktop. When prompted by the software connect the USB cable. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

I hope this has been helpful and once again, thanks for using Fixya.

One additional item...there are some critical updates that deal with communication with this printer. They are listed at the link above. After installing the driver, install the updates too.

Hey, you might just try the updates to start. It won't hurt and that may save you some time.

I print out 1 single document of bar code , but the printer wont stop

The print job is not formatting properly for your printer. It keeps corrupting and will cause the printer to spit out multiple pages with either gibberish or unusual fonts of varying size. You may need to recheck the software you've written the bar codes and make sure your using the correct code 39 font to create your barcodes.

Does it happen from every word-document? This is a postscript error. It can be in your document (you can test it by making an other document in word and print it. If it comes out properly, than you have to look for components like photo's, pictures, graphs in your document that causes the problem. It can also be a problem of your driver. In that case you need to uninstall and re-install your printer again. It can also be a memory problem of your printer. Please turn off your printer, wait a while, than turn it on again and see if it is still the same problem.

TURN PRINTER OFF, DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE AND RECONNECT.
INSTALL DRIVERS AGAIN AND SEARCH THE PRINTER IN THE CONTROL PANEL.
NOW "PROPIERTIES" AND "PRINT TEST PAGE".
WHEN YOU PRINT A DOCUMENT CHECK THE NAME OF THE PRINTER IN USE.

Printer appears to want to print out an infinite number of pages of gibberish from a document sent to it. Obviously, the document info somehow, somewhere screwed up. I don't need to waste an unknown number...

The document is probably not screwed up this happens usually when the computer is using the wrong printer driver. if the pdf looks ok on the screen try reinstalling the printer driver and resend the document. to clear the job from the printer just turn off the printer and clear the print que from the computer.

Gibberish sounds to me that ether one of two things is going on.

1. the printer was never allighned when the new cartridges where put in.

2. Depending on the gibberish its printing it could be a communication error with the driver on the computer.

Do not pitch the printer but get help for it like you are doing now! But I would have taken a chat from us to see what the gibberish is!

Printing gibberish then feeding several lines, printing gibberish

If text did not line up as planned, your TOF ( top of forms adjustment ) isn't correct. Just correct it using the button on the panel. If after printing 1 page or so and then it begins to go out of place, most probably you hv set the page lenght incorrectly. To correct, enter the MENU on the panel and set the correct page length.
Lastly if printing garbage, most probably you have selected the wrong emulation on the MENU. Correct by entering MENU mode ( press ' SHIFT+MENU ' button together ) and select the correct emulation.

Hope this helps.

Similar problem

Oh, apart from the interesting non-standard lights, you may well be able to solve the problem by emptying the print queue to get rid of the gibberish document. Double click your printer icon (start-control panel -printers and faxes) to bring up the print queue. Right click the queue and select cancel all. Once they are cancelled, turn the printer off and on - have the error lights gone? If so, print a test page, if not, report back.

Printing gibberish

gibberish printing is normally a sign of outdated print drivers. Try going to HP's support site and download the latest PCL driver.

Printer printing gibberish

Are you sure it's not the drivers (or the program using the drivers)?  Try installing a ps driver and see if printing to it will solve your problem.  If so, just uninstall and reinstall.

If that doesn't work for you, try a new cable.

If that doesn't work, you're probably looking at a new formatter board (expensive).

You can test some things by pressing menu buttons, then item buttons till you get to :
  1. Information
  2. Configuration Page
If that prints fine, go to:
  1. Diagnostics
  2. Print Test Page
I think that's the name of the test pages, I can't remember now, I'll have to check at work tomorrow morning.  Let me know if I got it wrong.
