Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I have a GE Spacemaker microwave JVM1430BD002 There's a circular panel inside on the upper surface that's all greasy around the edges. It has arrows with 'open' close' on it but I can't get it to move. I'm afraid of breaking it. Does anyone know what this is and how I might get the panel off for cleaning?

That's the stirrer cover. It does need to removed and cleaned, and the stirrer parts above it, too. so that the grease will not eventually cause arcing and damage.

Your owner's manual should cover that. If you've misplaced yours, you can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

I still can't find out how to open the stirrer cover. Where is exactly in the manual? The grease keeps coming down.

Model is GE JVM1430BD002. Microwave works but range fan and lights do not. Unit "popped" when fan was turned on one time and hasn't worked since. Is there a fuse or breaker for the range hood functions?

Yes - there is an internal "special" in-line fuse. Most likely it is the fan that has caused it. Clean the fan with switch-cleaner spray and make sure it is smooth running. Replace special fuse with identical version.
Check lights before operation.
Replace all covers before test.

A piece of waxed paper caught fire and melted a 1/4" hole in top of microwave.

I assume you mean the interior of the oven.
Epoxy is available in white (I don't know if in both quick & regular versions however) and I suggest you trim and fill the hole so its edges are flush with the surrounding plastic. Mix the two component epoxy, use duct tape or similar and if a quick-set type of epoxy, I would put a generous blob in the middle of a length of tape, allow it to start setting up (should still be very pliable) and put the tape over the hole, pressing it firmly into it to ensure that some material flows inside around the edges to secure it. Make sure the epoxy has NO metallic content as this would worsen your problem. If done well, the new plug should be quite level to the surrounding surface.

My Ge SpaceMaker XL1800 Microwave Oven won't power on any more.

1.Check power outlet for working.
2.If it is than you have broken fuse inside the m/w.
3. To change the fuse you have to disconnect the power to m/w, take the upper grill off, take the screw on top of control panel, lift the control panel up and removed. The 20 Am fuse located behind this panel.
