Https://www.dtv2009.gov/FAQ.aspx What you need to know is whether your TV set has something called a “digital tuner” already built in. If it does, your TV set will work after February 17, 2009. The best way to determine whether your TV set has a digital tuner built in is to consult your owner’s manual. If that’s not possible, you may be able to look up information about your TV set on the manufacturer’s website. Or, you can take an up-close look at your TV set. In any case, you’re trying to find out if your set has an input connection labeled “digital input” or “ATSC” (for Advanced Television Systems Committee, which is the DTV format).

Here are some general guidelines that may help:

TV set made before 1998 was a traditional “analog” set. If you bought a big-screen, projection TV between 1998 and 2004, it may have a built-in digital tuner inside. But chances aren’t great. Only a limited percentage of projection TV sets (and generally only those 42 inches in diameter or larger) included digital tuners before 2004.

If you purchased a new TV set since 2004, your chances of having a built-in digital tuner improve dramatically. Starting in 2004, many of the TV sets sold at popular electronics stores feature digital tuners that will work after February 17, 2009. But it’s not a sure thing. Even some of the newer TV sets are purely display monitors that lack the internal circuitry needed to pick up digital broadcasts. Usually these sets have been advertised as “HD-ready” or “HDTV monitor” sets. That means they can display digital and high-definition signals, but they need help getting those signals in the first place. You’ll still need a special converter or a cable TV connection. Hope this info above helps. Also, check your manual, and if you don't have it some manufacturers, (Philips does for some models) offer the manual on their websites.

The tv turns on and digital tv comes up on the bottom of the screen, and then it shuts itself off by itself. We have unplugged it for a few minutes to try to reset, but it continues to do the same thing?

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Sony KV-28DX30U. my tv wont re-tune!? I had digital channels before the switchover!? Do i need to buy a digital box? It has intergrated digital tv!?

It's probably curtains I'm afraid. The software in this TV is only compatible with the old standard (2k) and not the new standard (8k). Sony aren't releasing any updates so you'll need a digibox (or a skip!)

The remote control for my DTX6372 digital receiver stopped working. I have purchased a compatible replacement. What code do I need to connect the remote and the receiver?

You should not need a code. I believe you can program straight to your receiver by autoprogram:

No 5.1 surround when adding a Philips upconvert player to the San

Sounds like you are getting analog signals from your componet cables and a true digital input from your HDMI into your tv.

However that unit is Analog audio input x 1 only.
So i dont think your going to get true digital surround sound.
The problem being

Sanyo =

Inputs: Analog Audio x 1 Outputs: Composite x 1 · S-Video x 1 · Component x 1 · Digital Audio Coaxial x

Connect TV to dvd player

hdmi, S-video or jack are the most common cables delivered with the dvd, you can plug an amplifier between tv and dvd for a dolby system.
Turn on the DVD player, the TV and Set your TV on "AUX" or "Ext" with the remote.

Lost manual to program remote for Toshiba M-68C VCR

-Push "TV" and release.
-hold prog and enter the two digit code. (Try 10 for a phillips) release the prog button and see if it worked.

If not try experimenting with other two digit codes as I don't think there is an auto search for this remote. At worst it'll take 99 attemts to work ;-)
