Macbook start up problems

While working on a paper my macbook froze, so i forced a shut down. then after waiting a while i restarted it, only to get a grey screen with a flashing file icon with a ? inside of it. what should i do?

    I have the same problem - when starting my machine I just get a grey/blue screen which a flashing folder with a ? inside it - any help much appreciated

We'll that happened to me also.. i researched and found if you goto apple.com and look up support for macbook. Look for .pdf macbook repair manuel. There you'll get start up procedures. turn off power. Then load start disk, hold down "alt/opt" button and then turn power on. Wait for a min or two and then you'll see your hard drive and start disk to choose from. Choose start disk and click enter. Be sure your disk isn't scratched.. i had that problem. Then wait... it takes awhile so be patient. You'll get the whole set up again. DONT ERASE YOUR PRIOR DISK!!! Thats where i screwed up! So.... you should be able to get what you want .. if not.. its a new hard drive you'll need to buy... i'm heading to Best Buy and the Geek Squad for my help!

Hey, i got a problem thats different from that.Wen i click safar or anything else to open up, it doesn't work, and my menu bar is screwed up too. Any suggestions on how to fix it. I tried restarting and its still the same.

Why macbook not turn off blank screen


If the Apple laptop (or desktop) doesn't shut down properly, try pressing and holding in the power button for 3-5 seconds. This will force a shut down. Good idea to wait a few minutes before attempting a restart again.

Force eject CD from Macbook


A few ways of doing this

restart mac and press down the trackpad after you hear the startup noise

if that does not work try opening up disk utility and click on the icon of your disk under the left hand column then go up to eject button and click eject

or open up terminal found in the utilities folder within your applications folder and then type in
drutil tray eject and then press return

Finally what to do is try pick up your macbook tilt the macbook to the one side and press the eject key and hopefully the effect of gravity will allow the CD to fall out.

My mac book air is not shutting down..i just can see a desktop background and a coloured disk..


To have a try like this,put off the power connect wire,and took off the laptop battery for Makbook,it must be shutter down.Then restart it again! Good luck.

Computer froze, I tried to restart but it would not shut down. It is now stuck with only background showing. Can you help.


Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds will power off the MacBook Pro.

You can then try turning it on again normally.

If the problem with freezing reoccurs on start up, then hold down the power button again, and turn it off. Unplug the MagSafe Power Adaptor from the MacBook and the Wall for several seconds. If the battery is removable, then remove it, wait for a few seconds and re-insert it. Plug the MacSafe back in if desired. You should now be able to start up the MacBook with no problems.

I watched a movie earlier on my epson projector with my macbook. but this evening all it shows is a blue screen and I have tried very much to get it going. I think some how now my mac in not connecting to...


You may have disconnected the projector while your laptop was about to go to sleep. Try (force) restarting the computer by holding down the power button for a few seconds, wait til it shuts down, then power-up again!

Computer froze and will not restart


Hi,
You need to reset the firmware.
Remove the battery, and boot up but holing the power button down until you hear a loud Beeeeeeeeep, and the lights start flashing. Let go, and wait.

Dell mini forced shut down, now runs slowly


go to start - accessories - system tools - system restore - choose a date when it was working fine, preferably the earliest date. then wait for it to shut down and restart. you will not lose any saved files or folders, you will only lose programs installed after the date you choose.

try You can force a frozen MacBook Air — or any current Mac laptop — to shut down and restart without removing its battery. You just hold down the power button for a few seconds until the machine shuts off, then wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

Macbook - BLANK SCREEN!


Itunes is very tricky and its freezes computers very badly.try to take out battery and than turn on computer slowly,Soon if you can you need to reinstall itunes maybe to start to work better.
