Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

Intermittent sound from one channel (ch.3), sounds like variable wind blowing across an open mic. Makes this sound for about 3-4 seconds, about every minute or two. Happens wether or not anything is plugged in to input. If fader is up, there will be noise.

Is this a receiver or a mixer? In any case, the problem is most likely a noisy transistor in the front end of the unit. If you can supply the make and model number, I should be able to direct you tot the offending part or at least the correct circuit.

Thanks for the update. A couple of things to look for if you are comfortable working on electronics:

    1) Try looking for cold/poor solder joints close to the area of channel 3. You will find that the components for this channed reside inline with the channel slider.

    2) Loof for small 8 pin ICs that are markled either 4558 or 4560. These are small op amp ICs and sometimes they fail in this manner.

    3) Check the small capacitors in this area as well, Look for ones that have the flat tops bulged up. If you finmd any, replace them,

Let me know how you make out.

If the front display does not light up at all when the press the power button, it is usually either the main power fuse or the power transformer. If the fuse is blowing, that usually means a short in the amp section.

When i choose digital surround mode, there is no icons of surround loudspeakers, and there is no digital 5.1 surround sound. i have to press button DVD 6 CH INPUT. it is analog connection. sometimes when...

First of all, you don't identifiy the hardware.

Second, DVD 6 CH INPUT is analog so how would the device KNOW if all 6 channels are present? ONLY a device with the required 6 analog channels should be connected there. That input typically bypasses ALL internal digital processing.

Elaborate more on the digital source(s) that are failing and assure us you have looked at/exhausted what the manual says for setting them up.

Hello how doi adjust the left and right balance for the left and right channel level

The only 'balance' is to adjust the channels relative to each other with the test tones.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Pioneer-VSX-24TX-Receivers-manual/id/386ag014/t/2/

Page 29.

The "Effect/Channel Select" button on the Remote (left of the Menu button), will let you change the level to any channels while listening to a program. Page 22

"EFFECT/CH SEL +/- buttons (See p.38)

EFFECT : Use these buttons to increase or decrease

the amount of effect applied in a DSP or Advanced

Theater mode. When the amount of effect is

increased in a DSP/Advanced Theater mode the

characteristics of that mode become stronger and

more noticeable. The scale ranges from 10-90 with 70

as the default setting. First turn on the DSP/

Advanced Theater you want (by pressing the DSP/

Advanced Theater button until you get the mode) and

then increase or decrease the amount of effect.

CH SEL : You may want to adjust the channels when

listening to some sound sources. Use this button to

select the channel you want to adjust.

+/- : Use these buttons to select the amount of effect
in a sound mode and to adjust the channel"

I have a Pioneer DQ-4000 receiver. Honestly I am

I think what you are looking at is referred to as a banana plug connector. You do not need to buy these connectors to make this work. If you unscrew the plastic connector out far enough, a hole from the side opens up so you can put your copper conductor through and tighten the plastic peice down. The banana plug is probably better for easy connection but using this method is just as good.

Problem getting the best surround sound when watching a dvd

THE BEST SOUND IS WHAT SOUNDS BEST TO YOU, HOWEVER DO THIS:
1, USING THE SETUP MIC CONFIGURE YOUR DENON, PAGE 8 OF THE MANUAL. NEXT
2. RAISE THE REAR SPKR LEVELS, PAGE 46,47. NEXT
3. WHEN LISTENING TO AUDIO CD OR RADIO TRY THE 5 CH STEREO DSP MODE.
4. WHEN WATCHING A DVD USE DSP DOLBY PROLOGIC OR TRY 5CH STEREO IF THE MOVIE IS MOSTLY TALKING.
5, TRY 5CH STEREO WHEN WATCHING PROGRAMS WITH MOSTLY TALKING

TX DS838 WHEN TURNINGVOLUME DOWN UNIT MAKES A POP SOUND

Sight unseen my money says the new problem is a direct result of the 'repair' to the channels that are giving you problems now. You didn't elaborate on what it was you were trying to fix in the first place. Backtrack your steps and undo what you can to see if the bug changes.

Yamaha HTR-5990 Audio no longer works

Did you ever get this resolved?  I have a similar problem, my video feed seems to work but I have never been able to get any sound from my speakers using this component.  I'm not sure what YPAO setup is but I just read a suggestion to reset the receiver to factory settings in the event something is programmed that causes the problem.
