Question about Dell Wireless Keyboard Optical Mouse w0147

1 Answer

I hsve an optical mouse/keyboard model number C-BG17-Dual that appears to be frozen after a scan from McAfee virus protection (I think this is what was running). I've tried replacing the no avail. Could someone please advise. I noticed on the back of the mouse that it shows a Step 1 (push button on mouse), and Step 2 (push button on 'receiver'....the 'half-moon' shaped piece)...but they don't seem to be communicating with one another. I've checked on the web to find a manual or instructions and have not. Thank you in advance, for any assistance.

Solution was helpful, but problem not yet resolved. Wish to continue to work with nonontech some more. Thank you.

i don't have the usb connector...DO I? Dumb question...I know....but all I see is the mouse (no cord), the 'receiver'...(I think) which IS plugged in, and the keyboard (no wire either). I see a 'reset' button on mouse, and also on receiver (the half-moon shaped device). How do i perform a 'hard reset' on those two....without doing all of the other steps...and without a usb connector in a port. i really don't think i have that on my system. is this making sense? remember...we're talking about model number C-BG17-Dual. Thank you, again. :) cynthia

Well, the first step to be taken is Disconnect the keyboard and the mouse from the pc (receiver/transmitter), if possible remove the battery and leave it outside for few minutes. Restart your computer and reconnect them, you have to also follow the steps that you just mentioned Step 1 and Step 2, as soon as they are connected, you'll see the lights blinking on the mouse/keyboard as well as on that receiver/sensor. Wait for few seconds and press the "connect" button on the mouse to get it connected, if nothing happens, follow the steps below:
1. Your first problem might be with the software or drivers, Run a "System Restore" and uninstall newly added drivers or softwares or hardwares. Please do it step by step very carefully.
2. As you have mentioned, that the battery has been changed, well once again double check the battery, and make sure that the receiver emits visible light. Please note that, this issue is only about synchronization (except hardware failure).
3. Sometimes even the small obstructions can hinder the connection. So, verify that there's no object in between the pc and the mouse/keyboard and the receiver/sensor is aligned with both. Even the cabinet or other metal objects can block the passage of the wireless signals (Radio Frequency).
4. Your last suspects, Although complete failure of a wireless keyboard or mouse is rare, it does occur in a small percentage of environments. Failure may occur suddenly, or it may happen over time as the device becomes increasingly difficult to use. Users who suspect complete failure should move the wireless keyboard and mouse device to another computer, change the batteries, resynchronize the devices, and test for operation; if the device still does not behave as expected, it should be replaced.
Try all the measures above step by step and please let me know. Good luck.

thank you, nonotech for responding so quickly and thoroughly. however....i THINK my problem is much more simple (could be wrong) than the road we are taking to resolve. Again...the McAfee was showing on the screen when i found it frozen (please don't tell me that McAfee is the PROBLEM...i don't think that is either)....and both keyboard and mouse were not responding. My first thought was simply the i couldn't move the curser....but trying to reboot with Control Alt Del let me know my keyboard had an issue as well. Main question, I HOW to reset the dual mouse and keyboard, after inserting fresh batteries into the mouse. btw..there wasn't a power that is not the problem. Thank you, again...for your thorough assistance. I really appreciate your helping me! :) cynthia

To reset the receiver, mouse and the keyboard, you only need to press the "reset" button which is usually at the bottom as shown below: on the

and same with the keyboard. Please note that this is only a representation for better understanding, your mouser or keyboard may have different reset button on another side or with different styling.

    Good luck once again.

You are not bad. The usb Dongle is the same thing with your Receiver, the only difference is the looks, and the wires on the receiver you are using. Both are to be connected to the usb port on the computer to perform the same function. On the receiver, the reset button is on the top of the device. Press the reset button on the mouse, on the keyboard and on the receiver one after another, and make sure you hear a click when you press it.

If possible change the Usb port that your receiver is connected, connect the receiver to another usb port and check if it helps or not.

Reset everything and also restart the computer before connecting the receiver again. You'll see what exactly this time, if nothing happens again, then you'll need to check the "event logs" so that we can troubleshoot in a better way and in a more technical manner.

You'll also need to restore the system to the last state when it was working. Please let me know. Once again good luck.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Mcafee

Though according to the anti-virus comparatives, McAfee anti-virus rates highly amongst virus scanners in terms of available features, McAfee also have some advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: - McAfee Antivirus includes many features at decent prices. The protection level is decent enough for most users.

Updates are provided regularly, so that your protection software has the most recent updated virus database in order to provide protection from newly added malicious codes and viruses, and the entire updating and maintenance process happens in the background, without the need for user intervention or interference with the tasks on the computer.

Another advantage of McAfee Antivirus is its simple interface, which gives you quick access to all features. You can easily access its user friendly interface to use it, maintain it, and configure it. One of the main advantages of the program. Compared to other antivirus programs McAfee is relatively cheaper, and finally detection rate, when it comes to detection rate McAfee would still be somewhere at the top of the list. While there may be other programs with better detection rates, McAfee should be sufficient to keep those viruses away.

Disadvantages: - Some tests and comparisons carried out by pointed out McAfee Antivirus as not the fastest antivirus around, because it consumes a lot of memory, whether it's during the scan or real time protection.

Another disadvantage is memory usage during scanning, the full scan duration maybe a long time if the program consumes little memory during scanning you could definitely multi task and eventually complete the scan. Unfortunately though, the memory usage too is a bit too high so you'll have to leave your computer alone until the scan completes.

I wonder i bought a used Dell Wireless Keyboard Model R7D40 (7141236 and with that came a model C-BG17 cordless mouse receiver. i have a acer computer. will this keyboard work with my acer pc? also i have...

They should be plug and play so the pc should automatically pick up the device.
The mouse often has a small adapter with it , often inside the battery compartment for delivery. Plug the adapter into the usb socket on your pc and put a battery in the mouse , start up your pc and it should find the Wireless Mouse.

Cursor moves diagonally by its self.

I've had this a work a number of times and it is usually a case of replacing the keyboard of the laptop. Its usually the pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard thats interfearing with your usual mouse motions. You can disable this usually by going in to the keyboard settings in control panel and disablign it in "pointing devices" This would resolve the issue without the need to replace the keyboard.
