Question about HP Photosmart M425 Digital Camera

1 Answer

My computer doesn't recognize my camera is connected when I attach my camera with the USB cable. I have tried attaching it to both the front and the back sides of my computer, but it never acknowledges that the camera's plugged in.

Hi,

I highly recommend that you instead consider using a card reader to move the photos or videos to your computer. Card reader's do not require software (although Windows 98 and earlier may require drivers), are very inexpensive, are much faster downloading files from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during the download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.
Really, it would be better for the camera user if one of these was included with the camera instead of the cable and bundled software.
You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you convert to using one of these. Also make sure that you get a reader that is clearly stated capable of reading your card, particularly if you use SDHC, XD, CF, or MS cards.

Computer doesn't recognize camera

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Stuck in video Mode on startup - Liquid Image VideoMask 310

I realize your post is several months old, but since no one else answered, here goes. With fresh batteries in your camera, attach the USB cable to the mini connection hidden below the screw-on-cover on the top of the camera body. Make sure you have the mini side of the USB cable attached correctly to the camera. Be careful. It will fit both ways but only works for one of them. Don't turn the camera on. Attach the other end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer. The camera should activate (The LED should come on. Blue first, then red and stay red) and you should see "USB" in the LCD display on the back of the camera. Your computer may indicate new hardware found or may ask you what to do with files on a USB storage drive, which is what the camera will be read as. Do what you need to do to answer your computer so it will recognize the camera. Afterward, you should be able to transfer your memory card contents onto your computer. Once you have confirmed transfer, format the camera storage card so it is empty for the next round of photos/video. Hopefully you have this working by now, but just in case someone else has the same issue.

When I connect My Samsung VP-D77i Camcorder to my Laptop I always get a message saying "cant open camera device". My Laptop does not have a fire wire port but only with USB ports. It has Windows 7 Pre

First, try attaching the camcorder via usb cable with the camera OFF, then turning it on. This may trigger Windows to activate the driver scanner and activate the driver. If you've been attaching with camcorder off, try attaching with it on, to see if that activates driver installation.

If that doesn't work, you may have a low-power usb plug; often the usb ports in the back of the computer put out more juice than the handy ones on the front. You may also need a shorter and more robust usb cable; I've found with various cameras and phones that certain usb cables work fine for recharging but won't necessarily provide adequate data transfer.

Try connecting the camera directly to the computer, without going through a hub. If that doesn't work, then buy a card reader.

Iphone not recognized when attached with usb connnection

Try using different usb ports on your computer. If it doesn't work then try hooking up your iphone to another computer. If it still isn't being recognized then try a different IPHONE USB cable.
If your Iphone still can't be recognized after all of this then read the article at the link below.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

Also try restoring your iphone to factory defaults if necessary. This is a last resort. If your iphone still won't get recognized by the computer then it could be the connection on the Iphone is defective and in that case replacing the phone is the only option.

I had this problem. The T.sonic supplied USB cable was faulty and when I used a quality cable the problem was resolved. If you have a USB cable that came with a digital camera it will do the job as well.
