Question about Gateway FPD2275W LCD Monitor

4 Answers

Strange delay. Ever since I bought my Gateway pc, the monitor has a strange delay every time I turn it on. When I hit the power button the Gateway symbol pops up then fades away, but not all the way. You can still barely see the symbol then it stays there for sometimes a full minute. When it finally turns on, the VGA notice pops up and THAT stays up for another minute. Now, I brought my machine over to my girlfriends about two weeks ago and it seemed to be fixed. Two weeks pass and the delay started up again. What do I do?

I have the same problem as well.... unplugging definitely helps. But we shouldn't have to unplug the monitor every 2 weeks. Have you found any updates on this problem? I imagine there are several of us out there...

SAME PROBLEM, CAN FIND NO SOLUTION.

The same delay issue with Gateway FPD2275W. Used unplug suggestion.

It works for now. Unfortunatelly do not understand anything about fixing the computers. Will be very good if somebody will find permanent solution.

I'm having the exact same strange delay problem as you.
I fixed my delay when I too took my machine to your girlfriends. LOL!

No seriously.... you solved your delay problem yourself when you UNPLUGGED the power cord from the back of the monitor.

My guess is that when you unplug the power cord, the monitor resets itself. It's only a temporary fix, but, IT WORKS.

1. Turn the monitor OFF
2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor
3. Wait 10-15 seconds or so
4. Plug the power cord back in
5. Turn your monitor ON........DELAY ELIMINATED.

The delay returns eventually, but, I just unplug-n-replug and I'm good to go again.

This is a common problem with many LCD monitors. The
printed circuit board that provides a stable voltage for the monitor to operate
from starts to fail. The PCB can be replaced, when/if they are available, or repaired
in most cases at a much lower cost. for more information on this email me at

it will allow you to enter the selection screen to pick safe mode, you just need to keep hitting the F8 key repetedly as soon as you hit the power button to turn the pc on.

nonnie707, It is very possible that your monitor's internal or external (lay on floor) "switch-mode-power-supply" has a problem. Prove that your pc is working by connecting KNOWN GOOD monitor to your pc!!! If you are not electronics technician then you will need to question Gateway as to warranty service or possible swapout for a REFURBISHED unit if your unit is deemed as premature failure. May cost $ for swap. READ my FIXYA profile and that of other FIXYA TECH's (buddymc, budmrtn) for more options as to "what to do"!!! Remember, If very strange and weird things start to happen (occur) with "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" backlit LCD display, the first place I would investigate would be the units "switch-mode-power-supply" Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

kruwv, Use Gateway warranty first!!! Else gateway swapout+ cash for a factory refurbed unit if program exists. Did you un-plug unit from wall outlet and then reconnect power? Problem same? How old is unit? Approximate total "ON" Hours does unit have??? Do any of the buttons appear to be "stuck"?? Was unit working perfectly the "day" before? When strange things occur with CCFL backlit LCD displays I would first suspect the "switch-mode-power-supply" as area to look first. Read some of my other responses in my FIXYA profile for more options for repair. 12fixlouie

Restart the PC and get into SAFE MODE. Hit and release F8 many times right after turning on PC. If it works, then go into your video setting and either change the settings or remove the video driver. Restart the PC and you'll get 800X600 screen, then reinstall the video drivers. IF it won't go above 800X600, screen internals are bad, LCD toasted. I've seen that happen with LCDs and older monitors.

Sounds like you have a video card problem. If it works on someone elses PC and not yours. Replacing this video card on your PC should fix it..

Gateway FPD2275W Monitor not working

did you try the fuse. chances are the power supply is at fault but if the spike of voltage was sufficient enough it may have taken out the fuse first.
Warning: If you dont feel comfortable around electronics Do Not Attempt to remove the case from your monitor as HIGH VOLTAGE is present even after the unit has been turned off for a long, long time.
The other option is to find a local repair shop in your neighborhood which will give free estimates. Dont take it somewhere where they'll hit you up with a fee to look at it.

Undo what you did & it should hopefuly work.
Next time don't be overconfident and do things that you are not sure of. It doesn't hurt to ask someone who knows. Here you are lucky to escape with this one. I've come across cases where people have ended up short-circuiting their gadgets beyond repair.

If you have the previlege of having a manual, refer it, read every word carefully and then go about doing things on your own.

The FPD1975w

Replacing the lcd screen more than likely. Problem in the PCB thats built onto the lcd itself.
They are rather inexpensive these days to replace. I would just buy a new one. Check warranties offered before buying, some manufacturers offer 3 years. ;)
