If this is a rear mount ice maker....somtimes the fill tube is just a little too long and water will splash over the ice maker. Cut off about a 1/4 inch of the tube.

Detailed movements by step during the Ejection.

    - 1st step: Ejection temp checking step

Check whether the temp of the temp sensing part is below (5°F/-15°C) and whether the Ejection Stand-

By Time after Water Supply has passed. At this point, when the F-Defrost goes into operation during the

Ejection Standby, the Ejection Standby Time will be reset. Then, check that 55(90) min. has passed by

recounting from the beginning after the completion of the Defrost. If the temp of temp sensing part of ice

making become below (1.4°F/-17°C) and maintain it for 5 min, carry on the next step.

    - 2nd step: Filled up ice container checking step

To check the ice level of the ice container, CHECK the ON/OFF (Low/High) of the ice level S/W If the ice

level S/W is ON (Low), it means that the ice container is full and the Ejection stands by. And when the ice

level S/W is turned OFF and 40 min. has passed, the Ejection will be carried out.

    - 3rd step: ICE TRAY overturning step (clockwise)

It is the movement to turn over the TRAY to separate the ice cubes from the TRAY by rotating the Ejection

motor clockwise for a certain time period. At this point, raise the guide ice to prevent the ice cubes from

contacting the guide ice. Carry out the clockwise rotation for a minute from the start of the clockwise

rotation or until the horizontal S/W is ON (Low) after 5 sec from the beginning of the third step when using

horizontal S/W. If the door of the F-Room is open, stop the clockwise rotation and start the rotation after

the door is closed. During the temporary pause, the clockwise rotation will not be counted.

    - 4th step: Ice separating step (Standby for 2 sec. at the maximum twist point )

It is the movement to twist the tray again in the reversed state to separate the ice cubes from the tray

completely and the tray receives torsion because the ICE-TRAY is stopped by the STOPPER. The ice

cubes are separated by this strength and the tray stands by for 2 sec. at the maximum twist point for

    complete separation.

    - 5th step: Reverting to horizontal level step (counter clockwise)

Rotate the Ejection motor in reverse to revert the ICE-TRAY to the horizontal level. When using the

    horizontal S/W, reverse rotation begins.

When the horizontal S/W is ON (Low) after 5 sec from the beginning of the reverse rotation or the voltage

of the voltage sensing part of the motor is above 0.55V, the rotation will be stopped. At this point, the

raised guide ice becomes lowered again and touches on the highest point of the stored ice for checking

    the ice level.

    - 6th step: Motor initializing step (clockwise)

After a sec. upon the completion of the 5th step, the Ejection motor rotates clockwise for 2ms to release the

stress of the gear as well as to protect it.

Ice maker leaks water into ice bin

Some things I have seen that causes this issue:
A. Plug not sealing properly in the bottom of the water reservoir
B. An issue dealing with the circulation pump. Maybe splashing water out of the reservoir while running due to crack in pump housing, especially around impeller, or hose that feeds water from recirculation pump to cold plate has a crack/split/loose connection.

Does anyone know how to fix an ice maker?

When the ice maker calls for water it pours for about 7 seconds if more will overflow and drips into tray , but the most common problem is the dual valve that leaks even after ice maker called for water (this valve is located in the back of the fridge at the bottom where the water line is hooked up.)

The individual cubes turn into a huge block of ice

After the ice maker dump the ice it calls for water and pour water for no more than 7 seconds if is more and overflow the ice tray will leak on the ice bin and freezes all together , that means that the circuit board inside the ice maker is bad and need to be replaced but it will cost you almost as replace the ice maker and is easier ,two screws on the top of the ice maker and one in the bottom,a plug between the ice maker and the freezer wall ,and the plastic tube from what the water come into the ice maker.

Ice maker

Hello Carol34,
I'd like to help you but you will first have to provide some additonal information. First off, did it ever work? Not sure what you mean when you refer to the 'part that goes down to release ice just stays down".. are you referring to the arm that shuts off ice making when the bucket is full? Please provide this information so that we can get your ice working again..

Be sure that the fill tube is getting into the ice maker and that the ice maker is not blocked with ice.  If everything seems ok, you may have a leaking water valve which causes it to constantly drip water into the ice maker causing the block of ice.

Ice Maker Freezing Up and Ice not dispensing

Check your ice cube tray to see if it is warped. Mine was. I took the tray off and dipped it into boiling water and remoulded it to the original shape and re-installed it. So far no problems. The tray gets warped because of the ice cube release mechanism. The tray is rotated around until it meets a block on one corner which creates the twisting motion we used to do on manual trays. Over time it tends to warp the tray. Good luck
