Hi, when I shoot somevideo on my lumix dmc tz3,I am unable to view it using the playback fuction. The videos are displayed as blank (black) screens, and if I try to delete these screens,it states that "this picture cannot be deleted". Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When I go to playback, the first picture is a black screen. It will not upload on my computer and it also cannot be deleted on the camera. I cannot upload any of my other photos either since this black screen is the first pic on my camera and it won't move on until this one is uploaded!

If you're shooting to SD card, have you tried replacing the card? Unfortunately, there are glitches in the matrix.

I have had a Lumix DMC FZ 38 for over 4 years now and I m not sure if my internal microphone has reached the end of its life as I am getting great quality videos but now without sound. I have tried recording videos with 3 different cards, and review the content on 3 different computers, all of them have no sound. Nothing external is distracting the microphone, as it is on a tripod, so I am believing the mic has had it. Can the internal microphone be replaced or are there some settings I might have changed? Thanks for your answers.

I don't have a solution to the first part of your dilemma (why it won't playback) but I do have a solution for deleting the file.  On your camera are "hidden" file folders.  When you connect your camera to your computer, you probably only see two folders (that's all I see for my DMC-LZ8).  But there are more, and your undeletable picture/video is in one of these folders.  Find the folder and you'll find the file.  Delete it from your camera using the computer to do the command.  Problem solved.  Okay, so how do you find the hidden folders?  I have a Mac, so my process was this:  1) Connect camera to computer; 2) Select/open camera icon (looks like "volume disk"); 3) From top Finder bar, select File then Find;  4) Select the camera volume to limit your search to the camera (not HD or other external hard drives you may have connected to your computer); 5) Select "Kind" and in the next dropdown button "Folders".  Voila.  Happy searching.  My hidden "undeletable" video files were in a folder called "100_PANA".  I selected them then moved them to the Trash.  Be sure to eject your camera properly (don't just turn it off or disconnect it).
Good luck.  I hope this helps.
PS - My theory is that this occurred after an upload to my computer got unexpectedly disconnected before everything finished loading or else the camera got disconnected from the computer incorrectly even if the upload had already finished (see above comment to eject camera properly).  In either case, the blank/black screen, unviewable but "there" on the camera taking up memory photos/videos problem happened to me, too.  The above actions resolved it for me.

First Bob, I believe there is a menu setting that allows you to disable picture/movie deletes as long as it is enabled. Check this out regarding "this picture cannot be deleted" problem.

Second, assuming your screen is ok since you can read a message from it, I would try FORMATing your memory card, after downloading your pics/movs to your computer from the camera. Note to view MOVies from your camera on your computer, Windows Media Player will not play them. You must download Apple's QuickTime Movie Viewer to view .mov file format from panasonic cameras, or use a view that came with the camera on CD.

Use the windows movie maker for windows 7 downloadable from microsoft.com's download site.

It's a pretty good program for splicing together video clips into one large one.

Can the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 camera be used as a webcam for Skype?

Well-not easily. It will not work through USB. An out-of-the-box camera only lets you access camera memory card/onboard memory. However you could connect the camera video-out socket to a PC with graphics card with video capture function. Some cards with video capture work with skype (check this URL:
http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=41101 )
At the moment this seems to be the only easy way to use TZ3 as webcam.

Good luck,

Raf

How tu use video recording..

Hi,

The picture that I posted shows a TZ3 mode dial. I added a blue arrow to point out an icon on the mode dial.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Turn the mode dial on the camera so this icon is selected.
2. Switch on the camera.
3. Aim the camera at your subject, press the shutter button halfway to focus, then press it fully to begin the video. (Just as you would take a picture.)
4. To stop taking video, press the shutter button fully again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~When a video starts being taken, its current length will appear on the camera's LCD screen.
~Videos take up more space on the memory card than do pictures.
~If an SD memory card becomes full while recording, then the video will stop automatically.
~Videos can be played back on the camera's "PLAYBACK" mode. They can also be viewed on a TV or downloaded to a computer.

Lovely as it would be, there is no live output from the TZ3 so you will have to buy a proper webcam.
