I need the directions for using the external hard

I need the directions for using the external hard drive, it was a small page manual which I have misplaced. I need some primary directions on use. I used it once , but would like to back up my files now, as my computer is slow booting up and sometimes does not boot up for hours. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Friend,

  • It is better to Unplug your External Hard drive when Booting time.
  • Only plug it in after window Started / in ON stage.
  • Try to Plug in Backside USB Port of Desktop PC.
  • Correctly Plug in
  • Do not try to Overload(Something like trying to copy More/Different files at Same time;Only try to Copy One by One]
Hope this make you better..Thanks for Contacting FixYa...

Lacie External Drive won't turn on (blue Light doesn't go on)

Inside the LaCie D2 250GB (300770) external harddrive's case, is a 250GB IDE (PATA) harddrive that is 3.5 inches across in width.

A desktop computer sized harddrive. (May be a Western Digital WD25000JB)

The harddrive plugs into a small circuit board, (Bridge board), and the circuit board has a USB port on it.

Using this Western Digital Passport for an example,

http://www.xbitlabs.com/misc/picture/?src=/images/storage/wd-passport-250gb/p3.jpg&1=1

Scroll down to the second photo, and left-click on it. The case of the external harddrive is shown open.
Inside is a 2.5 inch laptop sized harddrive.
An aluminum tape strip covers the small circuit board, attached at the back of the harddrive.

The second photo down on this page, shows you the small interface circuit board, that the harddrive plugs into, with the aluminum tape removed.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/wd-passport-250gb_2.html

(Another design has wires coming from the small circuit board, to an interface the harddrive plugs into )

It is this small circuit board that goes bad in a LaCie. QUITE common.

Solution?

Simple.
1) Obtain a 3.5 inch IDE external enclosure
2) Remove the 3.5 IDE harddrive from the LaCie's case.
3) Install the harddrive out of the LaCie into the external 3.5 IDE enclosure.

An example of a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

I am looking for a manual for FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB 3.0. I have no idea how it works. It doesn't need fixing, I need to know how to do various tasks.

Here's a link for all the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drives support page: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=goflex-support&vgnextoid=884623db95b07210VgnVCM1000001a48090aRCRD

I would suggest finding the quick start guide for your external hard drive and reading that first.

Thanks for using FixYa; please post back if you have any problems and I will help you further.

How to open the case, it will turn on but it will not connect to the computer.

To open the external case and remove the internal hard drive, it is not too difficult, but you will run the risk of both damaging the case and voiding any manufacturer's warranty or extended 3rd-party coverage.
If you do not wish to risk damaging the case or voiding your warranty, do not proceed.
If you wish to continue, you will need the following before beginning:
A. External USB Hard Drive B. Small Flathead Screwdriver (Precision) C. Small Phillipshead Screwdriver (Precision) D. USB External Hard Drive Case (Replacement, if needed) E. SATA or IDE Cable (To attach to a computer, if needed)
1. Disconnect the drive from the computer and power source. 2. Using the flathead screwdriver, slowly wedge the tip in the overlapping fold between the center plastic piece and the outer cover. 3. Slowly wedge it in about 1/4 of an inch using an up and down rocking motion. This will slowly undo the plastic clips found within the case. 4. Move the slowly in one direction until you reach the very end, loosening the clips along the way. 5. Once complete in one direction, go back to the starting point and complete steps #1-4 again in the opposite direction. 6. Once completed, lift one side of the flap away from the center, while pulling the center piece out away from the flap cover. 7. Apply necessary pressure and it should come out as one piece. 8. Once removed, if there are any screws holding the hard drive in place, use the phillipshead screwdriver to remove the tiny screws, if needed. 9. Pull apart the hard drive from the center case and add to a desktop or replacement USB external hard drive case to retrieve your files.

How do i backup my files using the verbatim external hard drive usb 2.0 . Can i access a user manual online . I received none with the product. maybe the command is so simple or obvious plese help

May I know the Model # of the External Hard Drive?

You can directly copy the data that you want to backup and paste it in the external Hard Drive. You can also right click on the folder/data and select sent to option--->and then select the external hard drive (a drive letter will be assigned to the external hard drive also).

Your WD drive should have a USB port on it. You need to plug the drive into your laptop directly to be used as a external hard drive.
