the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

I cannot get my photos to download to my new laptop via the cable. I was use to placing memory card in photo/copy machime. My manual mentions a [pc] connection by default in the set up. must i go into...

For every camera, or memory card reader, you should install some software. When you use a memory card reader, most of the time the modern operating systems od have drivers at hand, but if you are still using an older operating system (like XP or older) you have to do the instal of the driver yourself. Most of the time the software is delivered with a memory card reader, and it is always deliver with a camera.
Some photo editing software can download direct from a camera, that is when the correct drives are available. Check the box where your camera came in, if you still have the CD with the camera software. Sometimes you have 2 CD's, one with the Manual. (PDF) and one with the software.

How to unlock a photo in camara

The protect function allows a user to protect a picture from accidental deletion. To unprotect a picture on your camera, scroll to the protected picture that you want to delete, then press the Menu button (the button to the right of the Play button.) Scroll down the menu and you should come to an option that allows you to Protect/Unprotect the picture. Since your picture is currently protected, deselect that option. You should then be able to delete the picture normally.

Alternatively, you could also format the memory card, however this deletes ALL photos and data you have on the memory card. If you are trying to completely clear the memory, this is the best way. After turning on your camera, simply press the Menu button, scroll to Setup, then scroll down to Format. Select Format, it will ask you if you want to format the memory card, or the camera's built-in memory. Format whichever one you want to clear, if you are using a memory card then your pictures are stored on the memory card. It will take a few seconds to format.

Hope this helps.

I cant get my pictures off the camara.

I would take the memory card out of the camera and plug it into your computer and see if you can download them to your pc without using the camera at all... If the pix are really important take the sd card to a photo shop and have them burn the photos to a cd... hope this helps

I have the camera and plug but no cd

When you connect the camera to the computer, it probably creates a USB flash drive in My Computer - you should be able to view and copy the photos from there. You could also check Vivitar's Website to download the OEM software, or Download.com for some generic photo-editing software.

Downloading photos from Canon 400D direct to Canons photo editing programmes on new windows Vista computer.

There are two ways to solve this problem. I am assuming you are simply clicking on the pictures and choosing "edit" or double clicking on the pictures and they are opening in "Vista picture editing"
The first way to overcome this is by opening the desired program first (in this case canon's photo editor) and then choose open and find the desired photos.
The other way is to set the file type association in vista so that RAW programs open with the canon program see below for step by step:
1. Click Start
2. Click default programs on the black bar
3. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program
4. Find the file types you want to open automatically in your canon editing program (RAW .jpg etc)
5. Click once at the top of the page click change program
6. A new window will open, if it does not list the correct program click browse at the bottom of the window and find your editor in it's folder.
7. Select the desired program by double clicking
8. Click OK
9. Click close
10. Test the new file association by double clicking a RAW file or one of the other file types and see if it loads into the correct program.

The final (and this is simply my plug for open source programs) solution would be to try something like GIMP (it is a photo editing suite developed under linux but adapted for windows) you can search for it on google.

If you are having trouble with any of these steps please post a comment and I will try and add some clarification.
Hope this helps

Transfering photos from computer to cd/dvd

you cant transfer those to cd without doing the process of Burning them to the cd/dvd.

if the pics/vids are already there on your computer, use Nero as your burning software and burn them to a blank cd or dvd. the process is simple enough. there are ways on how to burn images to a cd or dvd with nero.
