If it is integrated on the motherboard and it isn't responding, your best bet is to go buy an exoansion card 10/100 ethernet controller for approx 14.00 at any wal-mart supercenter

What is the function of the red WAN socket on the back of my BT Homehub 5?

The red socket on the back of the HomeHub5 is to connect the Hub to an Openreach modem and thus provide a network facility for the whole house, wireless or via ethernet cable. Since the Homehuh 5 has the modem built in anyway it seems a bit redundant unless you have an RJ45 (ethernet) plug connecting to your telephone line rather than the more usual similar but slightly smaller RJ11 plug which goes in the grey socket.
By the way I thank you for your testimonial and could find no other way to answer it than answering this former question of yours! Maybe I'll find a better way later on !
Anyway all you need to connect your Netgear is to use an ethernet cable from one of the yellow ports on the HomeHub and then configure the Netgear as necessary to act as a wireless access point, or wired router. The HomeHub5 is however quite a good wireless access point working at both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz bands to give you the best speed, as well as the network ports (yellow) on the back.

How are cables supposed to hook up in back of router and computer, dlink wbr 2310

You connect an ethernet cable from your modem to the WAN socket on the rear of the router.
Then you connect an ethernet cable from any one of the 4 lan ports to your computers ethernet socket.
If your pc has a wireless adapter, you can disconnect this after you have logged into your router and set the security.

Is there an ethernet cable that will fit into a panasonic cf28 toughbook laptop as i need this in order to get it to go wireless

If there's an ethernet socket on the computer then there's a cable to fit it.
Most computers today have ethernet as standard (the socket and cable have been standard for years).
Why do you have to use the ethernet to connect wirelessly? Normally just activating the wifi in the computer and logging into the router is all that is needed.

Do i have to hardwire my Sony HDTV to my router to get it on my network, there is no mention of hardwiring in the manual

hi Steve
2 things to check. Is there an ethernet socket on the back of the TV? is there any mention of connecting by wireless? Chances are that if it connects by wireless there will be instructions how to do it as it won't be simple.
I think you'll find an ethernet socket on the back and then it will probably just work by plugging it in.

My ethernet cable does not fit into my PC.

Hi
Ethernet cables must be placed the right way round. Make sure that you are using the ethernet socket - it looks like this.

If it is an older computer you may not have an ethernet port. It is possible to install one - you will need to buy the necessary hardware.

It could also be that your ethernet cable is broken, or that you have the wrong cable. You can buy a new one from amazon.

Hope this helps
Philip

Ethernet

Somwhow, your ethernet card came loos while transporting the pc to another house. If you can open up the case, all you may have to do is re-seat the lan card firmly in its socket. be sure to turn off the power before working.

Enthernet connection

Ethernet connection is a LAN or a CAT cable
One end of that cable will connect at the back of ur router box that u will have with u or u will get it from ur ISP .
and the other end of that cable goes to the back of ur pc in the jack which says LAN or try to plug it in any socket which fits properly.
u will a light that will start flashing at the back of ur back when u plug that cable in
to check whether u system supports ethernet connection or not
1. right click on my computer
2. goto properties
3. goto hardware
4. goto device manager
5. u will find network adapters there
click on the plus sign on the left side of network adapters
plus sign will change to minus
under network adapters look for an ethernet adapter or network controller
or 10/100 or 10/1000 fast ethernet NIC ( network interface card )
if u have one , then ur pc supports ethernet connection
U just have to connect the ethernet cabel to ur router box and at the back of ur pc and u just have to open internet explorer and ur internet would start working...
if u dont have ethernet cable with u or ur system does not have an ether net socket in ur system , u can goto any computer shop and get an ethernet cable and a socket for ur system
If u dont want to do that , u can go for a USB cable connection with ur pc or a wireless connection....
reply back if u face any further problems
