FS N520 - weak GPS/ Satellite signal

Hello mates,
I have a FS N520 PDA, originally shipped with WM5 in German.
I had many issues with the GPS/Satellite signal, very long time (like an hour…) to get a fix.
I’ve upgraded the device ROM on to WM6 in English.
But I’m still facing the same issue, no satellite signal…
I’ve read a little about it on the net, and followed some forum notes.
I’ve installed the Firmware upgrade for the GPS chip and I’ve installed the recommended software by FS, called GPS locate.
Yet – still NO satellite signal!
The IGO application finds the GPS (configured under COM 8 bound 57600)
Did couple of hard reset (one was needed for the GPS chip firmware update)
I’m loosing my hope, ever to use this GPS PDA.
Any chance any of you guys knows the magic that will make the GPS works?

Mine has never worked. Since I had a garmin I never cared but now when I want to sell it I am looking for a fix. I still use the original English WM5 installation. Done no upgrades so ever. I would also like to see a solution to the problem !

I think that the GPS update screwed the chip..

I suggest to consult with FJS support center

SOURCE: Communication Timeout

Under connection settings switch off the "beam" - apparently there is a conflict between the IR beam port and one of the ports used by the GPS system. Has worked for me.

SOURCE: will not fire up a gps signal

if you are having a problem with satellite acquisition, thats relatively normal for this unit, the antenna is buried in the thing instead of being exposed. if it is picking up satellites at all, then at least the gps chip and interface is functional. i would recommend buying an external antenna for times when you really need it.

if in the u.k., you can pick one up here

otherwise, do a search on ebay for "loox 520 gps antenna" or "loox 5xx antenna"

My PDA don't "see" the storage card. Can't perform any operations with Storage card.

Insert the storage card into another device (laptop with an adaptor ...). If the card isn't recognized then, it is faulty.

Hi there, I Like to upgrade in my I-Mate JAQ OS WM 5 TO OS WM 6,1 or 6,5 if its is possible. Please show me how to do this. Thank you, Aleksandar

Hi, I'm afraid there is no offical or unoffical ROM upgrade for your PDA yet (ROM is the place where the PocketPC operating system is stored, and each device model has a different ROM so sadly you cannot use any other Windows Mobile 6 ROMs with your device.). I am giving more details about this issue to make it clear. Still you can follow the forums time to time to check if someone makes a ROM for your PDA. Basic problem is unlike most of the PDAs, your PDA is a non-HTC based PDA. I hope this helps. You can still download some PDA software to use your device more efficiently (Most of the PDA softwares are designed for working on both WM5 and WM6, since your device uses WM5, you won't be having a problem.).

How to install OS in i mate jama

u can get the rom i used here:
The procedure is simple...
1. Format a memory card (micro sd) using FAT 16, use a card of 512 mb or less and atleast 64 mb since JAMA duznt support 1 Gb cards....
2. Extract the contents of the above mentioned rom to the memory card
3. Remove the simcard, insert the memory card back and then insert the battery
4. It will automatically upgrade, it will take sometime so relax
and yes wm6 works and feels far better than the preinstalled wm5 so go ahead!

Yakumo delta 300 gps

I have the english manual for Yakumo 300 Delta GPS. However, if you have the german version of the PDA you cannot change the language - you need to get an English version of Windows and install it.

The manual is a 3,52 mb pdf-file. Drop me a line if you want med to mail it.

Rx3715 several problems

If you have only flashed the English ROM, not any other language ROMs, read the following paragraphs. If you have flashed other language ROMs but not the German one try flashing the German one instead, there is something about it that clears the ppc out better. If you have flashed the German one, do not read on, as it will be an insult to your intelligence.

Most problems can be fixed with a ROM correction. Unfortunately, this is unachievable by simple re-flashing the English ROM. Certain other versions of the ROM (usually German is used) contain different enough sets of code (possibly different firmware?) to force the ppc to truly reset, unlike what happens when simply flashing the US ROM or changing to ROMS that use similar enough coding. Try flashing the German ROM and THEN reverting to the English. This tends to solve most any major iPaq issue.
