Question about Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966
Have a Troybilt 4 cycle weed eater. checked oil level and thought it was low and put some oil in the rear of the motor. Unit does not want to run at full speed now and quits after a few minutes of running. Dumped some of it out. Don't want to over heat the unit. Have I hurt the unit by putting in too much oil when unit was standing on end? Smells like it is running too hot. Have checked rear oil plug and now do not have too much oil in it. What weight of oil do I add?
Owners manual will state proper oil to be used but a good bet is that it requires SAE 30 wt. oil. Check and make sure no cooling fins are clogged with dirt, grease, debris, insect nests etc. Oil helps cool your engine also, but the proper amount is very important. I recommend synthetic oil for engine longevity. It's superior to standard oil for different reasons.
