Press the FN +F3/F4 keys to increase and decrease the volume in the vAIO Notebook.
Thank you..this I could do. Hadn't figured out why the icon has disappeared and is disabled. I can't click to turn it back on...but now I can turn it up/down either way!
Click on the small arrow type pointer in the taskbar towards the notification area, then select the customize option. After that, locate the volume icon and selet the "Show icon and Notification" option. Then, click on OK.
I had tried that but the volume was the only option that wouldnt do anything when I clicked on it. Everything else was enabled or on yes. after I started using the F keys, it came back. So thanks again!

Hi, in the same area where the "Volume Controller," should be, (right click), to open the "Short-cut menu," next; select the [Properties], to open. The "Taskbar Start Menu..." opens, click on the "Notification area" button; a new window appear, in the [System icons] section, select the Volume [box], and put a check in it by clicking in the box. Next, click on the Apply and OK buttons. "That should take care of that, the "Volume will be placed on the Taskbar." "Let me know by giving a "Helpful Rating" I appreciated it, thanks.
