Excel versus professional edition 2003

Hi Richard,

take a step back, and notice that they are talking about Microsoft Office Professional 2003, and not Windows XP Professional.

If you try to open an office document, in your case a .XLS file, and it says You need to insert the setup disk, then the install of Office is corrupt, and/or there are missing files that Office cannot locate.

you could cross your fingers and see if you perform a repair on Office.
you do this from Control Panel > Add Remove Programs, Click on MS Office 2003 Professional, and click Change/Remove . when the wizard starts, click Next and choose Repair .
it may still ask for the setup disks, or to browse to the folder where the setup cache files are located.
if this is the case, and you don't have the disk, your only option is to track down someone else who has the disk, or the folder on their c:\ where office offers to save its install files for the future when it might be needed.

I suspect that you did a File Cleanup on your c:\ and either you accidentally deleted the c:\MSOCache folder (which is hidden), or the Clean Up Wizard deleted it for you.

if you know someone with a PC with office 2003, you can copy this hidden file to your flash drive, and then dump the files back onto your computer.

i hope this helps.
