Question about Dell Studio 15 Laptop

1 Answer

When typing, cursor jumps to another line or paragraph

When I'm typing in MS Word or Outlook, the cursor will make uncommanded jumps to another word, line or even paragraph. Sometimes it will highlight an entire paragraph so that when I type the next character the entire paragraph is replaced by that one character. It's a new out of the box laptop and has done this from day one. It seems to get worse the longer I use it in one sitting.

No offence, but you're not touching the touchpad at all when you type, correct?

Try updating the mousepad drivers, maybe they are not good. there may be new ones on the dell site that would work better with your machine. it sounds just like the issue you get with some sony machines where the drivers are no good as standard.

How to Fix Windows 7 cursor jumps backward while typing Outlook messages.

Well, technically it is not moving it backwards, it is moving the cursor to wherever the 'pointer' is.
You need to STOP resting your palm(s) on the Touchpad.

When you touch it, it will move the cursor to wherever the 'pointer' is....which is likely where you started typing.

You can also turn-off the touch-pad if you will be doing lots of typing. This is done by pressing [Fn] and [F3].

When i am typing my cursor some times jumps to another line and some parts of my typing was deleted and i have to back again. it is nervous problem for me.

That happens when your hands or thumb are too close to the cursor pad. Due to your cursors pad high sensitivity will cause your pointer to move or delete entire paragraphs. To fix this problem by a mini-mouse connect it to your laptop and disable your cursor pad usually there is a button near by to disable it on most Dell and HP laptops.

When i type in my MS word or replying mail using outlook, my cursor jumps to somewhere, actually it just happened several times when i type this message

On your touch pad exists a place that works like a scroller on the mouse (Usually the right part of pad with white lining). When you rest your wrists in this area, the cursor usually jumps in another place. I'm of course hoping that this is the problem and that your touch pad works fine. Try it and please tell me if this fails..

When typing cursor keeps jumping

Generally there is a setting (CONTROL PANEL, MOUSE, Touchpad Tab) to either enable a feature like PALMCHECK or to disable the touchpad while typing. If neither option is shown, then try updating your touchpad driver
