Question about Computers & Internet

Samsung SH203N Our Samsung DVD drive SH203N (20X) doesn't write at the speed we set it to, I have some 4X discs that DVD decrypter says the supported write speed is 2.4X, I set it at 2.4X, but it burned at 8X. A 16X disc burns at 8X. It seems everything burns at 8X, no matter what I set it at. With Gear Video, the settings are grayed out, I can't set it. It said it was burning at 2X, but it must have burned faster than that, because it was done fast. Last night I burned 2 discs that had this error when verifying: Read operation was not successful. Internal error on the recorder Driver error code: 02043E02h The disc in the drive is not successfully recorded.

I have similar problem. I have the Samsung SH-203 F/W:SB01. When I used Nero v.8 to burn DVD-ROM (.jpg data), It gives me error "Burn Failed at 2.4x (3,324,KB/s)". Details of the error was " DMA Driver error, CRC error... Drive SH-S203..."

If you know how to fix this issue, please post your suggestion.

    Thanks!

Try to plug it to other USB port of your PC I recommend you plug it at the USB port at the back of your CPU..If this doesn't solve the problem try to clean your DVD drive lenses with a DVD cleaning disc..Still if this doesn't solve the problem perhaps you'll need to contact a technician or for worse buy a new external DVD..Hope it will help you..

Can you tell me some specific Brands of DVD-R or DVD-RW blank disks? I have tried several and cannot find many that will work with my Sylvania SRDV495.

There are no specific brands, however Verbatim are widely considered the best. Your, problem, however, is unlikely the brand of the media and more likely the recording speed of the media. Most blank DVD's on the market are 16x or faster and your machine (c. 2005) doesn't support anything faster than 4x. When I was reading the manual it referred to the "state of the art" 8x discs that the machine didn't have the ability to support. The discs you need are available and often are labeled as 2x - 4x meaning that they will support any drives that burn at a 2x - 4x spin rate. Also, be sure that you are not purchasing DVD+R and DVD+RW as they are not compatible with your unit.

I have a LG GE20 DVD Rewriter Is a DVD+RW disc a format that is editable and suitable for this unit?

The LG G20 DVD Rewriter is an advanced external burner that supports 'editable' Rewritable DVD+RW disk.
As a generic comment, not all writable/rewritable media are made equal and problem with branded & unbranded disks are not uncommon, so stick to brands that work for you for your specific unit!
The following is the advertised support for your unit, hope it helps:
Reading Rate DVD-R/-RW/-ROM 16x/13x/16x/16xSL/12xDL max. DVD-RAM 2x, 3x-5x, 6x-12x DVD-Video (CSS) 4,8x max. (Single/Dual Layer) DVD+R/+RW 16x/13x max./ 12xDL max. CD-R/RW/ROM 48x/40x/48x max. How do i increase my dvd rw drive speed

Not all "blank" disks are alike.
Some support only '4X' or '8X' writing-speed.
So, buy blank disks that support '48X' writing-speed.

Not all DVD-writers are alike.
Some support only '4X' or '8X' writing-speed.
Upgrade to a DVD-writer that supports '16X' or '32X' writing-speed.

Not all USB ports are alike.
USB 1.1 ports support 11Mbits/second,
while USB 2.0 ports are about 10 times as fast.
Check that your USB device is connected to a USB 2.0 port, not a USB 1.1 port.

    Won't Read blank disc!!

Ok, I talked to Samsung support again today, and they confirm that the firmware update should correct the problem of incompatibility with 1-16x discs. They are going to mail a CD with the firmware update to me, at no charge. They were not, however, able to tell me if the file I had originally downloaded from their website was the same as what will be coming on the CD. Sheesh!!

If I can determine that they are the same file, I will post such info. here later. Otherwise, I would advise contacting Samsung support and requesting a disc.
